Forums - Nintendo - Take Two to Focus on Nintendo

"To be perfectly frank, I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to realize what's going on with Wii and DS. I will tell you that very quickly we turned to both 2K and to Rockstar and said guys, we need a DS strategy and a Wii strategy and we are working on it. As we get into the next quarter and into budget season for 2008, everybody in this company is completely focused on it."

That's some pretty big news, claiming "Everybody in this company is completely focused on it."  Are we looking at the continuation of a trend (already started by Ubisoft and Activision) of companies shifting major developmental focus to the Wii?  What are your thoughts?

Wow. That's amazing. Those are very strong words.

It is funny that non-japanese developers have really embraced Wii, while japanese developers hasn't

I agree, I've been curious about that as well. Konami and SE seem to be tentatively checking it out, but otherwise not putting much focus on it, despite it holding a HUGE majority of the Japanese market. Namco-Bandai is giving it some decent attention (though not anymore then they are giving to the other 2). It makes you wonder why these American companies are supporting it in what's arguably the Wii's weakest market, rather than the Japanese developers who SHOULD be trying to milk the Nintendo brand for all it's worth in that country.

Edit: Even EA seems to be spending a lot of time and effort on their Wii games (like Boogie and the Wii Madden).

Yeah I was thinking the same melbye, I wonder why that is the case...

anyways, these are great news for Nintendo, they never were working close together with Take Two, and if they already start focusing on the Wii, who isn't?

Nipon Icci has promised support for the Wii and DS. Capcom has been supporting the Wii already. S-E is giving the Wii some games already.

So Japanese developers have been embracing the Wii. The news of it just hasn't been as recent.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

But besides Sega, none of them made major anouncements for Wii yet.

The Japanese already support the Wii. What we're seeing mostly now are those who wrote the Wii off or showed little support to the Cube last generation are now stepping up to the plate.

Im with LordTheKnight and Dolla on this one.

The Japanese developers HAVE been supporting the Wii and the DS, they just dont make big announcements about it.

The western companies have to let everyone know that they will finally support the Wii and DS.

Well I suppose I agree with that, though I don't think Konami has any Wii/DS support at all (or VERY little).  SE is showing some minor support for the Wii, and a LOT for the DS.  I'd say the fact that they ahve 14 DS games out or in development (2 remakes) vs. only 8 PSP games (6 of which are remakes) really shows that they are very willing to shift their major support to Nintendo and spread out development, but Konami STILL has yet to make anythign major.  Capcom has Zack and Wiki which is supposedly great according to IGN, as well as the RE4 Wiimake and RE:UC... so I guess they are showing decent support.  They already show majority support on DS over PSP, so I guess they are okay as well.  It's really just Konami who seems to think if they ignore the 800 pound gorilla everything will be okay.
