Forums - Gaming - Gaming Nirvana: DLP screen + 360 or PS3

I recently purchased a 720P-capable DLP projector for about 650 bucks... These things have become VERY cheap.  I bought a 110" diagonal screen and I am now projecting 360, PS3, Wii, and Blu-Rays onto a wall-sized image.  During the day, with lots of ambient light, the image isn't the best as the dark areas are really hard to see.  At night, on the other hand, it is like looking at a 100" diagonal plasma screen.  My "little" 42" 1080p Sharp Aquos seems so puny and insignificant now...

One issue with the Wii, thought, is the direction I point isn't anywhere near the point on the screen.  Nintendo should really release a tool to set the size of the screen and an "offset" so that large-formats can be accomodated for by the software....

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)

My HDTV obviously isn't as big as your screen, but I haven't found any pointer issues. I'm sure my 60" TV is much bigger than the sets the vast majority of Wiis are connected to.

Keep this in mind when reading what I type...

I've been gaming longer than many of you have been alive.

I have the same issues with the Wiimote on my my 52" XBR4.

They should've made the infrared system similar to Time Crisis 4's. Instead of the infrared cubes being stuck on the end of a bar, they're completely separate, and you put one on the top left and top right corners of your screen. Because of this, everything adjust to the size of your screen, creating pinpoint accuracy ala the arcade machines.

When I was in college I was the assistant manager of a theatre and we would have Halo 3 LAN parties on the big screen. We could do this because our theatre had the digital content before the show started, it was called "The Twenty". The digital projector took in component cables and went up to 1080i. Looked pretty good even when sitting up close. Playing that was friggen awesome.

You can easily make two cubes of your own IR sensors or buy two of the wireless sensor bars by Nyko and place one on either end of the screen.

Problem solved.

It would be a lot easier (and free) if Nintendo would just create a tool in the sensor bar setup to calibrate not just top and bottom of screen but also an offset.  Basically the user could "look down the barrel" of their wiimote in order to point the wiimote at the center of their screen from the normal position of play and have the console calculate an "offset".  This would effectively solve the problem and be a very welcome utility.

ilooking for buying a plasma TV me too,but is really 7209 better than 1080p,its not logicale for me

@kn
I know the glory of which you speak.
My friend recently built his own house and included a theater room where he has all his consoles and gaming rig set up. 119 inch projection screen. I think he should have went with the 110 like you, though, because the colors are a bit washed out, but it's awesome, nonetheless. I brough over Heavenly Sword and Uncharted and he put in Gears and COD4. Just brilliant. He has black window shades an black curtains on the 2 small windows in the room to get around the daylight issue.

Just wait till you see a Superbowl on that badboy.

I did once play on a projector like that, it was absolutely amazing, though it would have been better if we were playing better games, it was just PDO and PES 6 because there were 3 of us, but it was still awesome. My CRT TV does not do my consoles justice at all..
