Seriously? Atraight people don't go around talkign about how hot the other sex is? Isn't that the main activity of all straight people? Or at least straight guys? Isn't that the reason beer commercials like the idiotic women-mud-wrestling-over-tastes-great-less-filling ads exist--because they're targetting all of us straight men constantly leering over women?

Flamboyance in gay culture is a result of priveledge--just like Rubang was saying for parades. We constantly act striahgt in a very overt way, and much of our world and culture is based on incredibly heteronormative ideals. Being queenish comes from a few things, among them a desire to be able to live what they feel is a normal life in the face of a society that is constantly reinforcing that their lives are not normal (which is an awful situation to have to be in, yes? Thus why we white straight males have a hard time understanding the inherent problematics you have to experience in being a minority--we are lucky enough to not ever have to be in such a situation--hell, the world is so kewed towards Europeans and their decendants that even in countries where white people are in the minoritty they often hold an exalted place. For example: you can buy a bleaching agent in Mozambique, where I spent some time, advertised as "give your kids the Michael Jackson makeover." It is desirous to be white). Flamboyant homosexuals are trying to gain a voice in a world where they have little to no voice.

How would you feel if someone said "I don't mind you being straight, hypothetical-stereotypically-straight-DMeisterJ, but could you not make it so obvious, and be so in my face about it? Your slovenly attire, loud arguments on sports, and opinions on which female video is the hottest annoy the crap out of me. Can't you just be quietly straight?" It an absurd thing to ask of this hypothetical version of you, and thus it's absurd to want all gay people to fit into an "acceptable" box as well.

I really don't understand the whole"as long as they don't do anything to me"line...What do you think any gay guy is going to do to you? Why even think about it?

I think maybe a lot of teenagers/early 20's stuck with their parents/church's negative ideas need to get out and experience more of the big wide world...
