Forums - Sony Discussion - Will FF XIII be another high budget COLOSSAL blunder due to PS3 exclusivity

Umm Konima has sold well over 3 million copies of MGS4, and your saying that is bad sales? So would you consider reasonable sales since 3 million in two weeks obviously isn't enough for you?

not trying to defend the thread maker here, glad he was banned but that 3 million isn't going up anytime soon seeing as only 2.06 million have actually been sold to customers.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

sir 2 millions are 2 weeks sales.

@johnsobas -- so what if Retailers have only sold 2.06 million(as of 2 weeks ago). Konima doesn't sell MGS4 to consumers it sells it to retailers. Therefore they will be looking at how many copies THEY sold to retailers to judge if the game is a success for not.

well if this gets bundled it should do well, which i think it will be bundled

In japan it will probaly get bundled but in us or europe dont think so.

The sales so far seem really impressive to me, and its undoubted shifted a fair amount of hardware. I wonder how much Sony paid Konami for PS3 exclusivity of this game? Did Konami even need to sell any to break even or did Sony effectively pay for the development costs of this title?

I hope for Konami that Sony did pay a fair amount of money, cause so far sales are not enough to make a decent profit on it, which must hurt Konami, cause it's one of their most important franchises and took a lot of investment from Konami to make.

I dunno but I'm certain for sure that you're a banned troll.

FFXIII is ONLY possible on PS3.
it`s not a multiplatform, because the game is NOT possible at THIS quality on any other platform.

Every 5 seconds on earth one child dies from hunger...

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

Have any of you played MGS4 and then started up any multi platform game, even the best looking of that crowd and compared them? Do the same with Uncharted and Heavenly Sword. Going multi platform sacrifices a LOT of beauty this generation as the 360 just isn't capable of doing what the PS3 is. Yes when you look at the same game for both consoles its pretty much a wash, but thats because the developer limited textures/sound/music/scope to allow the 360 to get the game too. I have yet to see a 360 game or a multi platform game that comes even close to MGS4 and for good reason, the 360 is just weaker as a system (significantly so).

Related to that I think it will sell as much if not more on one console. It will sell more because it gets more attention then it would otherwise. Remember the MGS3 launch? It happened when the console war was quite over and it had some fanfare but nothing huge. MGS4 was advertised immensely much of it free because it was THE console exclusive game of the first half the the year. It had a bunch of Sony adds, was put into a bundle, was talked about endlessly ect. I wouldn't be surprised if MGS4 ended up the best selling in the series. Releasing it for the 360 too would be fail in just so many ways. If anything you might have noticed the trend is in the other direction now; the 360 games are all coming out for the PS3 and PC with very little headed to the 360 from the PS3. It must be that whole selling more consoles per week for half a year thing thats helping the PS3 (as well as passing the 360 up everywhere outside NA handily by this point).

I agree with jenny, its stupid for third parties not to release big budget games on both the 360 and ps3. But if they realy wanted to make alot more money they would just make a big budget game for the wii.

This is what keeps consoles alive.  There is a reason Halo, Gears, and Fable are 360 only.  They give that incentive to push would be gamers off the edge.

Same reason MGS4, Final Fantasy XIII, and Resistance are first party.

The Wii may have won financially, but if you add the numbers of 360 and PS3 sales- it shows that Hardocore gaming is just as credible as casual gaming.

By 360 only of course you mean "360 only if you are too poor to afford any kind of decent PC" since every decent 360 game has come out on the PC (if not the PS3 also) in short order.  Right now I have Mass Effect, Gears of War and Fable installed on my computer as well as Halo, I'm sure I'll have Halo 3, Gears of War 2 and Fable 2 soon enough after they are released.

The Xbox platform NEVER keeps exclusives unless they suck hard.  Alternately there are TONS of playstation games that have never seen another console or the insides of a PC.
