Let me ask the real question here. If Square had made Final Fantasy XIII on the DS instead of PS3, would it match sales? If it could then ask yourself the difference in profit it could make. Me personally, I think if FF XIII were developed for the DS, it would outsell the PS3 version by a healthy margin and would have been highly profitable. Much more profitable than the PS3 FF XIII will be. Square is aware of this and have shifted a lot of resources over to the little handheld that could.

I dunno. Graphics is about all Final Fantasy has left as far as quality goes.

Are you retarded?

That's the worst first post I ever saw. You're warned.

I think it's more like Square Enix likes to release games on every existing platform :P Even the iPhone.

I'm sure when those games start bringing in money their profits will be used at least in part on new wii games. It'd be stupid to limit resources in a different way.

Yep, at least of part. 5 million at most for mediorce Wii/Ds game and rest to the next Ps360 game :p

@Soriku: That FF:CC trailer sucks.

However it is rumoured that the game would be done over with Crystal Tools as the engine(even though I'm 99.9% sure that it was to bring FFXIII to Wii but Iwata wouldn't moneyhat SE).
So the next one might look good.

I think more of a FFXIII side story that the real installment.

If what you said were to happen. SE needs to first gather an army and have M1 tanks patrolling around their offices before the announcement. Many PS3 fans will be a little pissed.

A FFXIII spinoff will come.

But anyone who was following Wada's statements from Nov07 to Jan08 would have realized that his frequent visits with Iwata and his constant blabbering about wanting Nintendo.

In a previous thread I had this to say:

"This was when Wada wanted Nintendo to ensure him that rpgs could sell well.He commented that Nintendo didn't focus on stuff like Zelda in their ads(he called Zelda an rpg).

SE wanted the Wii to fail during the holiday season. After it didn't Wada couldn't shut up about how Sony and Nintendo were confusing him and kept flip-flopping on whether he liked them or not(Do a search and see the number of bullshit statements with PS3 and Wii from Nov07 to Jan08).

Incidentally Crystal Tools was ported over and anyone with half a brain would have realized that he wanted to bring FFXIII over to Wii because he was worried about the PS3.If anyone thinks that SE would waste time and effort porting that engine for FF:CC or believe "it was multi-platform all along" as SE later claimed(lie) needs to have their head checked.

However it seems that SE thought too highly of themselves and probably wanted Nintendo to moneyhat them.Iwata said no.I am 99.9% sure of this.

Then the "Wii is a toy"statement came out and was followed by another statement where he flipped again and he had to explain what he meant by calling the Wii a toy.

Wada is a fucking asshole who can't think before he opens his trap.Tools like him need to be stabbed in the face."

Just look for articles between those two dates and see his constantly shifting opinions with both Sony and Nintendo and you will see that their is nothing surprising about what I'm saying. The simplest answer is usually the correct one.

Heh, remember some of those posts. At the time i thought that some of them wasn't real.

 If u say so

Square Enix isn't what they were. Don't try to pretend anything else (not directed at Leetgeek only).

April 1st 2003, Square and Enix merged.

Before this time, Square had released 35 games (that we have sales info for), and half of them made a million.

Enix had made roughly 25 games (which we have sales info for), and roughly half of them made a million sales.

Square Enix has, over  roughly 1 generation, now made over 60 games, and less than 1/4 of those have sold a million.

Square Enix makes almost triple as many games as they did before, but still ends up with less sales.

nice pic, even better thats ingame:)

Flagship games are crucial to franchises, so I'm sure FF13 will be spectacular -- heck, they'll probably need a special quadruple layer 100GB disc to store all the data. It's kind of like the car market, where the technical innovations in a high-end BMW, Mercedes or Lexus trickles down to the mass market. (Think of how voice acting started in consoles, and then moved to handhelds).

That said, investing in handhelds is a very smart strategy, and not just because development costs are much lower, and the potential sales base is bigger. The cellphone revolution is just getting started, and soon billions of people on this planet will have phones capable of running impressive games. Handhelds are a key bridge to the cell market. It'll take a couple of years, but it's going to happen.

Let me see if I understand you correctly.

You expect the following.

- Final Fantasy XIII will sell 10M. That is to be the best selling FF ever.

You expect this even though

- Final Fantasy XIII is on the console that is likely to be the second worst (perhaps worst) selling console a main FF has ever been on.

- Final Fantasy XIII is on a console that is strongest in the region Final Fantasy is weakest in.
