Forums - Nintendo - Square-Enix using Nintendo to pay for Final Fantasy 13 etc?

Hey guys,

I just came across this thread during a Google search, and wanted to weigh in real quick on the "FFTA vs. FFT" debate.

I wholeheartedly concur with 'Kasz216' that FFTA is the superior game. FFTA definitely has the better story. The storyline in FFT is strenuous to follow, and once you de-code all of the jabberwocky, the storyline isn't really all that sensational. Personally, I hate storylines in which writers fall all over themselves inserting way too many arcane details just to make the story appear more 'authentic' and 'intelligent'. It just leads to frustrated gamers who're forced to read and re-read storyline text just to grasp a point. Hey, we're supposed to be on an adventure here! That's not what RPGing is all about to me...

I also feel that the judges system presents more of a challenge to the true strategist. I learned so many new tactics in FFTA that I never would have tried in the anything-goes FFT. In FFT, sometimes you tend to fall into a repititious routine of doing things, but the judges system really makes you think that much more, and makes you a more cunning strategist. FFTA completely changed the way I approach combat in SRPGs.

However, I do recognize that "FFTA vs. FFT" is a matter of personal preference, rather than a clear-cut case of one game being better than the other. I prefer FFTA due to my own personal tastes (I prefer the artwork and character designs in FFTA, for instance). FFT was an enjoyable game for me though, and I would admit that it is superior to FFTA in one area. Namely, music. In FFTA you basically get served the "Walking in Ivalice" tune for almost every battle (don't get me wrong, it's a great track, there just isn't as much musical variety as there is in FFT). The soundtrack in FFT was a lot more stirring and evocative for me. FFTA's soundtrack is a good listen, and well suits the outline of the game, but the sountrack for FFT is a true classic.

Hey Kasz216: good to see someone representin' 4 da FFTA in 08! I play it on my Micro. You have good taste in games, b. See you sometime @ the pub in Baguba Port...We'll drink sake, pick up some assassin girls, kill some missions, and go sailing. L8ter!

Looks like SE is using Sony to pay for MS FFXIII, doesn't it Leetgeek?

Hey! You think Nintendo will announce a Wii version?

*snicker

No.

But hey, RPGs are a great "bridge game".  Look at Final Fantasy and World of Warcraft.  People of all ages, all races, males and females.

I wouldn't be surprised if Square Enix is working on something big for Wii.  Maybe Chrystal Chronicles:CB won't suck; Maybe it's something unexpected; like DQIX on DS.  I bet SE wishes that hadn't sunk millions into PS3/360 's FFXIII, and had been developing it cheaper and faster on Wii.

I would rather have FFXIII (and DQIX for that matter) on an HD console, but it isn't a smart move when they aren't the market leader for a "bridge game" like an RPG and cost way too much to make.

Two Tales games are announced for Wii.  Thats one more than 360 and two more than PS3.

RPGs sell well to casuals.  Look how well they sold on PS2.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
