Lol, Persona has a big following in Japan. Tales of Symphonya DotNW is a spin-off, not a direct sequel. Namco themselves said that.
Besides, name an RPG that sold better on the PS3 in Japan.
Stop trying to prove a point you will never be able to prove, in some weeks ToS: DotNW will be the best selling current gen RPG in Japan.

Bets with Conegamer:
Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

So you use your own opinion to disprove another person and then laugh about him?
This must be the most funny funniest comment of the month. (fixed for you)

Oh wait, there is another contender, someone said a couple days ago that GoldenEye sucks. That is probably the most funny one actually.

PS2 has proven to be an RPG platform in Japan YEARS ago. It was an obvious choice for Atlus to release a game on a known market. It's safer than any other console market, even PS3 and Xbox360.

A less popular franchise have better chances in proven platforms. Tales is the first RPG on Wii (besides Opoona but that was a disaster in many aspects). The sales on the newer platform shows promise for the genre.
| Kasz216 said: Does it matter when you have more PS2 owners? Aside from which... there are plenty of ways to tell a story and still let people coninueing on what was going on. For example some extra optional explainers by way of NPC interaction early on... or a simple cutscene that explains the last two games and some important concepts. They do this in RPGs all the time... even when it isn't a direct sequel. Look at the opening of FF12. That thing was MASSIVE. |
It matters when you try to expand to more owners.
Using a cutscene may not be the best choice. Players want to play a game, not watch a movie.
I think they should make the story as independent from the other two as possible and deliver short but concise info while the game progresses... In time, the prequels will become necessary.

Laugh all you want, but the gameplay was more balanced, more complicated... and the story while a little childish was a lot better as far as developments, pacing and logical progression. There wasn't one aspect in which FFT is better then FFTA. |
are you kidding me?
Its your opinion and all but when you think your opinion is fact, when MOST reviewers would completely disagree with you. Gametrailers themselves said that the story was complete rubbish and not even worth paying attention to. Seriously a story about a guy falling into a book? Just wow.
I would expect the gameplay to be more complicated...theyve had 10 years to work on it. But when FF tactics first game out it was the best around.

I agree. It is so funny when people do not agree. Also, he's not alone. You use GR a lot, so I'll use it against you too. Final Fantasy Tactics: 82.9%. Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced: 87.7%
Wait, WHO bashed Squareshoft? In the PSX era, there wasn't a lot of Internet forums you know. Your friends may have bashed Squaresoft, but that doesn't mean the VGChartz community should. I call your bluff. Show me 1 single thread made in the PSX era that bashes Squaresoft.
Also, Di8, I know you read the whole thread, I was just making sure you understood what he meant (it took me quite some time to understand it). |
Ok first off you can compare reviews of a 10 year old game to a new game, completely DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND SITES REVIEWING IT.

The story of FFT is told too complicated to get it the first time through the game for most people, but that's not only because of the script, but also because the story IS complicated, but so is Xenogears' plot, but fact remains, that the story of Tactics is great and one of the most mature around, it's a very tragic and sad story, but great.

Actually it was a half done Tactics Ogre "ripoff".
The only reason ripoff is in parenthesis is that it was made by the same team... who so impressed with Tactics Ogre, Square pretty much bought to make a near copy.
Tactics Ogre was also better then Final Fantasy Tactics in just about every way.
