Forums - Sony - Blu Ray sales up 500% from last year.

its pointless buying a dvd over a bluray, theres simply no match.

in the upcoming years bluray will overtake dvd which i belive will go disfunct once hd tv penetration is very high.

good news on the blu though, i expect next year bluray sales to be leaps and bounds above this years.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

ps3 future proof confirmed,
the question is are people going to be picking the ps3 as the blu ray player of choice or a stand alone because if they pick the ps3 then whoop whop for sony.

Well yeah actually. If it wasn't for PS3 there would be no blu-ray sales.

Well there would be some... but it wouldn't be pretty.

PS3 sales are way higher then all other blu-ray players combined.

Even when you account for the fact that only 48% of PS3 owners watch a blu-ray product once a month. (or more.)

That's the question though... when are people going to pick up actual blu-ray players... cause most people would be embarresed to have a videogame system as their movie player.

Yeah, Blu-Ray is actually fairing better than DVD did during this timeframe, which really started taking off about 3 years since its inception (2000-2001). DVD did have more titles to its name by this point though. The format war is part of the cause of that.

That's... not really true.

That was based on not movie sales but hardware sales. Which included every PS3 sold as a blu-ray player used for blu-ray.

Maybe it was the case... when taken in the proper numbers, but i don't have the numbers on me.  Blu-ray uses a LOT of propaganda and "Sony spin" in it's articles however.

Not as embarassing as having an HDDVD player though. ;)

Nah. Most people can pass off an HDDVD player as an upscaling DVD player. Most people won't know the difference.

That will be the real test. If Blu-ray stand alones start outselling PS3s.  Never did the PS2 outsell stand alone DVD players. (to my knowledge.)

While PS3 crushes standalone blu-rays despite being way less popular then PS2.
