Forums - Sony - Why has the PS3 outsold the 360 by almost 1.5 million units this year?

It is a combination of the XBox 360 being a non-factor in Japan(1)(2)(3), a lower priced model of the PS3 being released late in 2007(4), Blu-Ray winning the format war with the PS3 being the least expensive Blu-Ray player(5), and the PS3 finally seeing some high quality exclusive games in major franchises(6).

If things go well for the XBox 360 for the rest of the year (sees a price reduction, has many high quality games announced and released, and doesn't see too many delays) and things go poorly for the PS3 (doesn't see a price reduction, few new games are announced, and sees many game delays) the XBox 360 will probably be able to minimize its losses to the PS3 in North America and Europe/Total Others.

 1. Wow I didn't know we just cancel out a whole region because the competition isn't doing well there.

2. Guess that means get rid of 360's sales in NA too. 360 = 7.7 mil console sales Vs. Ps3 = 11.59 mil console sales Vs. Wii's negative 30 million console sales. PS3 IS WINNING THIS GEN!

3. All sarcasm aside now... Ps3 isn't doing well in Japan either quit with your bologna excuses.

4. Uh.... okay... again... didn't know we cancelled sales out because of price drop. Guess we can cancel out 360's sales since they had a price drop in others this year along with one last year too.

5. Wait.... I thought blu-ray was a useless luxury and that it will never sell. People don't want to buy blu-rays when DVDs are just as good at a fraction of the price.

6. Of course... wait... I thought it was because of blu-ray... now it's games? Is it the useless luxury or is it the lack of games?

Being outsold by 400,000 consoles in Japan IS A REASON why the PS3 is outselling the 360 by 1.2 million consoles this year.

Flamming him for stating the obvious makes you sound like an ass!

The Ps3 is extremely slick and shiney. Slick and shiney is hot right now.

Yes, it has a piano black finish.  But it's huge and ugly and really fat.  Technology is supposed to be small and sexy, but huge, fat and ugly like the PS3 is.  The problem is that Sony engineering couldn't make it small and sexy.  They weren't capable of it. That's literally the truth why it is huge and ugly -- no one in their right mind would have said, "hey, we can make this thing small and sexy but let's make it huge and ugly."

It's more unattractive than the 360.

WTF? Um they could have had an external power brick. Which would have made it the 360's size. I don't think you have both consoles or seen them side by side. Ps3 isnt that much bigger. And more unattractive than the 360... Seriously...  just wow. If you think that then I'm sorry.

Personally I dont think either are sexy. I don't think ones better looking than the other. Your arguements are stupid on both parts

The battle over 2nd this gen, could go on a long time with price cuts. But otherwise it,s looking more like Sony has in the bag by the end of the gen.

Lots of "interesting characters" are showing up in this thread. Smells like alternate accounts to me.

HappySqurriel's analysis makes the most sense, its a combination of many factors.

2 reasons brand name and its the cheapest blu ray player ( expect a samsung blu ray on play.com for £199)

No. Just no. Region isnt a reason why it outsold it.

Person 1 - "Why did A out sell B?"

Person 2 - "Because A outsold B."

In this case pumpkin face is Person 2 and Leetgeek is Person 1

Please explain (before you're banned) how stating that the XBox 360 wasn't performing well in Japan that I implied we were canceling out regions? How mentioning that the PS3 was seeing increased sales because of a newer lower priced model meant that we were canceling out sales due to that?

I know that logic obviously isn't your strong point, but their is a distinct difference between the questions "Why did A outsell B?" and "Why did A outsell B by so many units?"

 Person 1 - "Why did A out sell B?"

Person 2 - "Because A outsold B."

And each console had a price cut new model last year and this year the 360 had a price cut in others. It benifits both companies and is not a reason why.

And why didn't you mention Europe or NA?

Your condescending attitude is quit obnoxious.

The logical answer to the bolded point would have been "Because more people bought A than B" instead of your paragraph of bologna
