Forums - Sony - in-game "Voice chat" and "Video chat" are coming to PS3

Not interested in video chat but voice chat would be sweet. Anybody know if it'll work across games? Like if i'm playing CoD4 and a friend of mine turns on his PS3 and starts playing Rock Band can he msg me and tell me to jump on with him or something like that?

So how would they implement a video chat with multiple people playing, cycle through everyone? I can see this as a great add-on for a social interaction while at Home or enjoying a two-player coop but it won't work in a multiplayer game.

I don't think its video chat with every one u come in contact with, that'd be mayhem for online play. I think that it will be like how it is now, u set up a video chat with someone in ur buddy list, then u can go into a game with that person being on the screen at all times.

I think it will work across all games, because if it is indeed being run by the OS, it should be apliccable to all games.

On voice I should add, this needs to include some kind of unified structure and I need a mic like my 360's. Something comfortable and I can plug into my controller or whatever. Clear and comfort being the most important.

How's that for a Mic?

voice chat would be nice. however, I think video chat would not be good. I know I wouldn't want it.

Any one notice that the site labeled it as a "rumor". I have a feeling it's gonna come, I don't know when but I think it's gonna come. Am just saying "don't get your hopes up for this year".

I was just thinking that something like this would be a great addition to the PSN the other day.

I sometimes use a webcam with Skype when playing with some friends on the PC. It works in a similar fashion, with a small window showing my friend in the corner.

What's also great is you can turn the webcam around and point it at your TV. So in a multiplayer game you can see your own screen, then have your friends screen displayed in a box in the corner.
