Forums - Nintendo - new ubisoft shovelware title announced for the ds and wii.

I think people have a problem with ubisoft because even though Nintendo also produce low scoring games, they also produce very high scoring games that a lot of people enjoy. Ubisoft on the other hand havent produced anything notable for the Wii since Red Steel and RRR which again aren't to the quality that many expected.

Ubisoft knows that there is a market to be tapped in the Wii market that seems to be emerging but they aren't producing a balance of games for that audience and the audience you'd find on a gaming forum. I see that as the real problem here and that's why Ubisoft's low scoring games are being called out as shovelware.

You're missing the point. I'm not calling any of those games shovelware. I'm trying to point out that some of these Ubisoft games that people have considered shovelware, when 99% of the time they haven't played them, may not actually be shovelware at all. I'm sure people thought going in that The Dog Island was just another shovelware Wii title. Why? Becuase you play as a dog and Ubisoft makes it. Turns out the game wasn't half bad. There's also the problem that anything even remotely bad as a game is considered shovelware. People don't realize that games that score in the 50s and 60s aren't shovelware. It's usually the games in the 20s and 30s. Ubisoft does make bad games, but they don't actually make much of the shovelware that haunts the Wii owners on here. You can thank UFO and Conspiracy for most of it.

No, I agree with you completely, I was just pointing out what I see as the problem that most people on this site and others have with Ubisoft. They expect some big games that interest them, even if these games aren't bad games, they just don't interest them.. As I said before though, Nintendo seem to have that balance of interesting games nd rental games. Again Ubisoft are mostly producing games for Wii that most would only rent or not be interested in at all.

I think when/if Ubisoft does hit the right balance then people wnt really bother worrying about it.. Until then though, many more of these threads are just waiting to be made :)

Reviews are about quality. Shovelware is about effort. BTW, the Dog Island was made by a Japanese developer, just published here by Ubisoft. Yet it also took over a year to make, so I don't have to play it to know that much development time makes it clearly not shovelware.

The reason the Ubiday Wii games set so many off was that the games barely looked to have any effort put into them, save for RRR3 and possibly Baby Party, which has better graphics so far than the Wii version of Shaun White's showboarding.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I just thought, if Cooking Mama appears too soft for those "hardcore gamers", would Gordon Ramsay's swearing attitude draw their attention? Not that I've watched any of his cooking shows.

Ubisoft iz making good money from selling crappy gamez for nintendo platformz and the good games on ps3/360. Why wouldn't they keep doing thiz? :) But really, don't be such snobcorez, these gamez are good. Just as good as any other casual game.

^I just can't wait for the community to make Gordon Ramsay calibre expletives when the game actually gets released!

If Ubisoft wants to release nothing but crap for the Wii, let them. Whether or not a few hundred (or thousand) users on the internet declare their intent to not buy games that they wouldn't have bought anyway, Ubisoft is going to keep doing whatever makes them money. The best way to get back at them, if you really hate it that much, is to authentically ignore them instead of draw attention to them. There's a chart I saw once that points out the spectrum of success: if you're getting any kind of attention, you're doing something right, but if you're not drawing any reactions at all, then you're in trouble.

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

Lol Ubisoft to Wii fans:

Of course it's a port, we're talking about Ubisoft on the Wii here.
