Forums - Sales - On the Carless affair

Recently, as all of you know, there was an article that soundly discredited VGChartz all around the web, the worst part was that it was just after the site got that great comparission of Pasarella that finally gave the site a grounding affirmation as a reliable site.

I was reading the thread on this topic, and as many of the post are just mere fanboism for the site itself, some others have some truth in them.

One fact, is that this article just gave voice and reason to all the VGChartz discreditors out there, if you just go to their forums, or do a quick search on google blogs and news, you will see some people is talking about this. Wired has already issue some opinion on this.

And I think the most hard rock here was the MGS4 issue, not that much for the Iron Man one, I firmly believe VGChartz tried to hold in their arms more than they actually could, and it came on inventing numbers for probably the most expected release for this year, which from wherever point of view it is a sorrounding failure. The site already had numbers for america and Japan, which itself is a very good news release. Believe in any industry releasing numbers the way the site did with Europe is either respected or believable, and anyone would be fired for such a thing.

Being said this, I still think the site is a great attempt and a statement of what internet should be, a free flow if information, that can be accessed at any time, in any part of the globe. The problem is that now a lot of confidence has been lost, and that is something really hard to regain.

So I suggest the site holds their horses on inventing numbers, specially for big releases specially like the one I mentioned. The best strategy is to stay calm and cool to that horde of forums and blogs attacking the site. and best of all, not to attack back, just prove you are right, and that your numbers are indeed reliable. The work you are doing is very good as it is, but I firmly believe you have to be more open on your sources and your methodology, and recruit more people to your cause, and who knows how far this site can really goes.

Thank You

ROFL!

Talk about Cherry picking...

Its widely known that software figures on VG aren't anywhere as accurate as the hardware figures. I definitely take them with a grain of salt - but its still a lot more accurate than making figures up *myself* (with absolutely no basis to them).

I just don't understand what the detractors WANT with VG...

1/ If you don't like the site, or the numbers - DON'T COME HERE!

2/ No matter what happens to the numbers here, the site will *never* fold or vanish - it will always be around (or replaced by another equiv. site).

3/ There is empirical proof to show that all the numbers have improved in accuracy over time. The same will be true of the software figures, just as it was of the hardware figures.

Untill NPD (or another tracking site) does what VG does - but better - it will remain the primary source on the web for these figures. Even if ALL it does is catalog & database publicly available figures - its still a great service. It has *nothing* to do with "confidence".
...

This is why I love the Internet. If something was on TV people didn't like, they would change the channel. But if people see something they don't like on the web, they can spend all night ranting about WHY they don't like it (rather than just ignoring it) - rather than looking for something they do like.

Not even one argument on my main topic, but is nice fanboism

Okay, let me explain what shams mean in one simple sentence.

If you don't like it, leave, we really don't need you.

i could go on and discuss your first post, but you don't deserve that.

Ha, Shams is a vgchartz fanboy.

The numbers for MGS4 weren't made up, they had Japanese and American Data, and estimated Others data based on past software sales trend - Unfortunatly it sold less then expected there. It's already been said that they will make it clear in the future it is a mere estimate and not the full information.

So you're saying we aren't supposed to be vgchartz fanboys and defend the site you spend the most time per day on?

I see, can't twist the logic there.

It was a joke...

I think the OP is so used to calling people who disagree with him fanboys, he doesn't realize it doesn't make much sense for this.

this has been discussed to death, and I'm pretty sure this is stealth trolling...also keep in mind that this site deals with sales predictions, not solid numbers. I'm not saying this is a bad post, but this is going to start a flamewar...

This is exactly what I wanted to see, what kind of reaction this would provoke, the post itself is a praise to its work, but it is also a word of caution.

I never intended to start any kind of war, I'm just telling hard rock facts, and no fanboism. Believe me to predict numbers of a game based on two entirely different regions, with entirely different backgrounds is no way professional.

Believe, all of this could have been prevented just by stating, "We don't have European numbers yet".

This is not for discussion, these are hard facts and an opinion, which people can be in favor to, or disagree, but my basis are no other than a reaction the web has had, and denying this has happened, and not being compelled to change because of this, just show the most negative side this site could ever had.

This is no war at all, this should be about helping each others, and sometimes, a truthful yet hurting opinion is the best way to help. And saying to someone if you don't like my way, leave, just show how close are people to real dialogue and progress.

I wouldn't say that, that makes it sound like you are trying to piss people off
