Recently, as all of you know, there was an article that soundly discredited VGChartz all around the web, the worst part was that it was just after the site got that great comparission of Pasarella that finally gave the site a grounding affirmation as a reliable site.
I was reading the thread on this topic, and as many of the post are just mere fanboism for the site itself, some others have some truth in them.
One fact, is that this article just gave voice and reason to all the VGChartz discreditors out there, if you just go to their forums, or do a quick search on google blogs and news, you will see some people is talking about this. Wired has already issue some opinion on this.
And I think the most hard rock here was the MGS4 issue, not that much for the Iron Man one, I firmly believe VGChartz tried to hold in their arms more than they actually could, and it came on inventing numbers for probably the most expected release for this year, which from wherever point of view it is a sorrounding failure. The site already had numbers for america and Japan, which itself is a very good news release. Believe in any industry releasing numbers the way the site did with Europe is either respected or believable, and anyone would be fired for such a thing.
Being said this, I still think the site is a great attempt and a statement of what internet should be, a free flow if information, that can be accessed at any time, in any part of the globe. The problem is that now a lot of confidence has been lost, and that is something really hard to regain.
So I suggest the site holds their horses on inventing numbers, specially for big releases specially like the one I mentioned. The best strategy is to stay calm and cool to that horde of forums and blogs attacking the site. and best of all, not to attack back, just prove you are right, and that your numbers are indeed reliable. The work you are doing is very good as it is, but I firmly believe you have to be more open on your sources and your methodology, and recruit more people to your cause, and who knows how far this site can really goes.
Thank You
