Forums - Nintendo - Super Mario Bros. 2 (NA Version)

Ok, so I lied. :)

Instead of focusing on Donkey Kong Country, I decided to play a shorter game, Super Mario Bros. 2.

I ended today half way through, gotta love Wii's ability to save your exact spot. :) I'm at 4-1 and will probably finish it tomorrow night, if I get a chance to play any games.

This game is such a black sheep of the Super Mario world. Granted it wasn't originally a Super Mario Game in the first place. Instead it is just a game with Mario figures over the original characters + a star and mushroom.

Either way it is a good game and I can't wait to see the dream ending again.

It was okay game, when i played on Snes with Super Mario All-stars..

It had very good elements

I finished the GBA port of this game, it was an OK game but I prefered SMB 1 and 3

I'm a princess and Luigi user, love high jumps and floating.

Sometimes a franchise needs shaken up, and that's what SMB 2 did on the NES. As much as the core crowd loves games not to change, games have to be made different, that's why SMB lost levels would have been a lousy Mario to release in America. it was the same game with higher difficulty and would have hurt Nintendo's new found reputation as an original developer.

I'll have you know that the star, cions, POW blocks, and Mario jumping sound effects were already in Doki Doki Panic, which was made by Miyamoto, so it's more of a Mario game than you think. In fact, he was more involved with this game than with the Lost Levels. (But they added in the mushroom to replace the heart.)

Have you never completed it before? It has my favorite ending of a Mario game (awesome boss, awesome credits, awesome ending music).

Are you using warps?

I thought all of the mario elements were completely something else that had the same function. Either way I really like the game.

I beat it a few times when I was younger, the ending really surprised me when I first finished it. I never use warps on any Mario game.

The characteristics of the playable characters were important to the Mario world. I would love to see that format for the Galaxy 2. All four back in action, selectable... oh yeah.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

ohh, your exactly right Luigi and Mario's movements have always been based on SMB2. Granted, luigi's sliding and long jump has declined relatively speaking, but the difference between these two are still present in modern SM games.

I havn't played any of the paper mario or portable mario games, do peach and toad act similar in any games they are present in? How about Super Smash Bros?

Yeah, Peach floats in Smash and in Super Princess Peach. Toad was solid but I don't think he's been in any other platformers.
