Forums - Nintendo - Is the Wii benefiting or hurting hardcore gamers?

This subject is so damn old that it's not even worth a response. If you're fed up with it, sell the damn Wii. Don't tell us. We don't care. We didn't buy it for you. I am happy with my Wii. Why should I care about what's hurting the hardcore when it's helping me? (I'm core not hardcore. We aren't talking about porn, so people should stop using the word.)

Oh, and King of Wale, did your momma ever take you outside of the house? All you do is stay here all day trolling. Why don't you do something more productive than staying on the internet all day. *to put it bluntly "get a life"*

Damn things have changed since 2009 began. Here are my new visions for the end of the generation.

Wii: 135 mil

Ps3: 85 mil

360: 60 mil

sadly its hurting it :(.
wii for nintendo is just a shovelware, cash cow-
i am worried many wii users wants games on the wii, when doing so you are just supporting companies for wasting a lot less in the development of a game.
but if many parties get into the wii thing we will for a long time see ps2 remakes, weak games for a while.
and sadly on the wii i got nothing more play than zelda and maybe brawl :(

What? Nintendo has been making games of the upmost quality for the wii.

I think it may be hurting "hardcore" games to a point, mostly what I see, is that fps/hack and slash games took over the "hardcore" position. I'm gonna ignore my main thought about games being classified as hardcore simply because of graphics and say the content is what makes it hardcore. The dialogue and violence is then what makes games hardcore, (since classics like tetris, pac-man, mario are no longer hardcore it seems) games like halo, god of war, and gears of war. However rpgs like final fantasy and tales games I don't think are hardcore enough and will appear on Wii most likely.

Games like halo, devil may cry, gears of war are less likely to appear on the Wii. So since those type of "hardcore" games are not in the most successful console, they won't be able to get maximum profits.

This thread is full of trolling - from everyone. Either it ends soon (along with the name calling & attacking) - or it gets locked.

@all: if someone trolls in a thread, *report it*. Do NOT respond with some sarcastic "Here is XXX trolling again" comment - that is just as bad as the troll.

Define hardcore.

I play games daily, I work in the industry, and I love Wii.

PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)
PC: 10^9
Wii: 10^8

To think the Wii is "hurting" hardcore is laughable IMO.

All its doing is expanding the gaming audience, and giving developers an alternative channel for releasing different/lower-budget titles.

Developers now have more freedom in choice of target platform than ever before.

...

The REAL issue is this:

WHY are developers making more casual, and less hardcore games?
- (Answer: Money)

WHY are hardcore games just not as profitable as they used to be (which leads to casual game development instead)?
- (Answer: Development budgets have gone through the roof, and its not being covered by the extra revenue earned from these games - as the "new" audience are intimidated and uninterested by these old "hardcore" titles)

I don't think it's doing either really. Regardless of what one company do, the other two will always be doing something different, so we will always have games for casuals and games for core markets. But I believe so long as Nintendo keeps making games, the Wii will never be a entirely casual experience

All the wii is doing is providing an alternative.

@frybread: working the industry = putting on a wii-mote costume and handing out fliers? (only kidding)
