No, they don't. All Sony has to do make it so that if you press the PS button while playing a game, the OS tells the game that the "START" button was pressed and then have the OS go on and do whatever it does to bring up the XMB.
Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it
