The thing about Scientology is that it's a legal paradox.
It exists as a church, officially recognized by the U.S. government as a religion, so the Church of Scientology (CoS) doesn't have to pay taxes.
But at the same time, they are owned by Religious Technologies Corporation (RTC), so they can legally copyright their books and sue you if you post it online. And you have to pay to learn.
Imagine the Catholic Church copyrighting their Bible, and charging you $200 for Genesis, and then $200 for Exodus, and then when you've mastered the Old Testament, you get a fancy promotion, and you're in really deep and feel awesome, but then they go "oh wait there's more" and charge you $500 for each Gospel.
It would give you the impression that they care more about taking your money than converting you to save your soul, wouldn't it?
That's how CoS/RTC works.
You pay each step of the way, and each step is more expensive.
There is a group of Scientologists called the Free Zone however, who believe that they should be able to study it all for free. They believe in it, and want to share it with their friends and family, and can't do so legally because it's copyrighted.
