New Gears Web Site Coming

July 8, 2008 - It looks like Microsoft and Epic games are prepping a new Web site for Gears of War 2. Surf on over to this URL, and you'll see a lone image of a human soldier holding a group of COG tags in his gloved hand.

Surrounded by blackness, the COG fighter is holding what appears to be a Lancer machine gun in one hand and the tags in the other. There are three gear-shaped COG tags and three traditional-looking dog tags, one of which shows this series of numbers: 033 111 117 126 071. Helicopters hover in the background.

We're told the franchise's Web site will remain www.GearsOfWar.com, but beyond that, Microsoft folks said they can't confirm what changes may be in store for the site. As of this writing, clicking on the image of the COG soldier (is it Marcus Fenix?) leads back to the current Gears of War site.

Someone decoded the code.

In ASCII, the numbers read ESC-N-O-V-9, which could mean Escape Nov 9. However, Nov 9 is a Sunday. Who knows.

First emergence day was a Sunday (Nov 12th 2006 to be exact).

yay gears 2 will be epic

Gears 2 is definetly looking a lot more promising than Gears 1 so I'll definetly wait for E3 tidbits and vids to give full judgement.

It's definitely E3 time! We are getting SO many leaks today, it's awesome!

-Microsoft price drop (and a 'fantastic surprise')
-40gb PS3 getting 'replaced' in August
-Animal Crossing Wii confirmed for E3
-Battlefront 3 for all current consoles and handhelds
-Gears 2 most likely coming November 9... wow

I think the Nov. 9 day is pretty plausible--not only did the first game launch on a Sunday, as Jlmadyson said, but November 9th was also the launch day for a certain OTHER fairly big Microsoft game a few years back...

E3 is gonna be huge.
