well?
well, not much you can do. Nintendo had that market for decades, ever since the beginning. Frankly, I say stick with what they are doing now, do a better job with their anti-piracy measure. and they will be fine. (not going to win, but sell 60 million units isn't a bad accomplishment in a handheld's life time)
here's what I want to see in PSP2 in 2011
*full PS2 BC titles, through PSN.
*dual analogy stick.
* faster loadtime, better battery life
*better launch title
*keep the 169 price range
*lock up exclusive titles, WAY more RPG please.
Soriku (Feb 10/08): In 5 years the PS3/360 will be dead.

i believe the PSP2 will launch in late 2010/ early 2011.
It will have:
a 1.5ghz processor
graphics equivalent to high end xbox games
dual analog sticks
better battery life
a higher resolution screen than the current PSP. Maybe an OLED screen.
it will have incorporate Trophies and have a more advanced PSN (like the PS3 version)
It will have bluetooth, and IR.
It will be able to connect to both the PS3, and the PS4 (through a firmware update if it's released later than the PSP2)
It will use a "mini" blu-ray disk. Sort of how the GC used a "mini" DVD.
It will be BC will the original PSP.
It will (if these specs are near the actual specs) launch with a $230 price, which may be lower, depending on much OLED screens and Blu-ray diode manufacturing costs drop.

I think the PSP2 will be announced next year and released in 2010 sometime. As for what I'd like to see on it... I honestly don't know. One thing I would like it to be is more piracy resistant so that it will have better software support from developers.
2010 will be when they announce it, and 2012 will be when they release it. And you can count on it.
Sony has a difficult balancing act ... The low software sales of the PSP will lead to lower and lower third party support, so if Sony doesn't release a PSP2 soon the PSP could sit on the market for a long time without any games (which hurts the image of the PSP wil consumers and retailers); at the same time the PSP has only been on the market for a little over 3 years, and the market has not been kind to consoles which are replaced in less than 5 years.

I agree with everything, except I think Sony will try to keep the PSP2 under $200.

on the money with this
Here is my thoughts on PSP2.
Launch in 2010 for $199 - comes with handheld+charger+memory card(cheap one tho - 64mb or 128mb?)
Features:
* PSN support
* Trophy support for all games
* 800Mhz processor + Graphics between PS2 and PS3 in quality.
* Better quality screen (OLED?)
* Will use "UMD2" disks -- their basically UMD's with larger storage capacity and a faster drive.
* Can access PSP2 PSN store via PSP2 or PC
* Full BC with PSP games
* 256mb of RAM
* Better battery life based off a larger battery.
SONY will also base the new PSP hardware off the current PSP hardware in order to minimize R&D costs...
