Forums - Sony - Sony doesn't think rumble is last-gen anymore

Its clear the vibration will be integrated as in the Playstation 1 .New controllers (as the Dual Shock 1 ) who benefits of the rumble features .If you want rumble you have to buy one ,if you dont you havent to .But they wont change the actual controllers and probably wont patch older games to rumble just the ones post new controllers .

Around the Network

Rumble is an excellent feature when properly implemented, the Wii-mote does it nicely such as in RE4 where you feel varrying degrees of rumble as you do one thing or another, its a subtle, almost unoticeable feature that becomes one of the many elements that create the game.

While as a feature it certainly doesn't make or break a console, but just not having it is somewhat arcane and backwards really. I understand Sony was in a tough situation, but if they had just settled out of court like Microsoft did for 13 million they wouldn't have been forced to pay 91 million after losing the case.

How do you think they'll manage the introduction of the new controllers? Offering a free upgrade to their customers, or making it an optional purchase and therefore not a main feature of the PS3?

this is another proof that ps3 is bad designed console.

That reminds me of what Sega did during the Genesis era. There was an imaging patent that all console makers had broken. The holder of the patent just asked that Nintendo, Sega, Atari, and 3DO pay him 7 million each and he wouldn't sue them and he'd allow them to use his technology. Everyone but SEGA decided to pay, SEGA ended up losing the case and they had to pay 42 million dollars.
