"The Nyko Intercooler has also been reported to have caused a general hardware failure in a number of consoles, as well as scorching of the power AC input.[22] Microsoft stated that the peripheral drains too much power from the console and can cause faults to occur, [23] and stated that consoles fitted with the peripheral will have their warranties null and void. Nyko has recently released an updated Intercooler that uses its own power source. Nyko claims this problem no longer occurs with new versions of this cooler. However, Microsoft still considers it an unlicensed add-on and will void the warranty of machines showing signs of its use. There is no data available to indicate whether Intercooler decreases the chance of hardware failure".

I've never had any problems with my old nyko intercooler after a year of use, but I took it off since I decided it wasn't worth the possible problems.
The one I used was supposedly causing scorching and RROD. If MS sees the scorching, they will consider your warranty void. The old ones with this problem have a plastic connection to the Xbox. The newer ones that are supposed to have fixed this issue, have a metal connector. Though I have not looked into it since then, I don't know if those eventually had other problems as well.

The Nyko EX apparently fixed the problem that the original Nyko Had.

yah its happend with me .. when i bought my 360 elite i bring nyko cooler with it when i put the cooler my 360 flash 3 red lights like the RROD that time i shocked and think that my 360 is dead but when i removed the cooler its work normaly.
| kn said: There was quite a bit of discussion around the nyko one as it ran off of the 360's power supply rather than having its own. In doing so, it robbed some power for the internal cooling fans and in doing so made the heat problem worse. There were numerous reports of the plugin getting so hot that the intercooler fused to the 360 body and those warranties were voided as it was clear the intercooler contributed to the failure. All conjecture and hearsay, but it was widely reported on the netz about a year ago. |
was what I was thinking.
