Forums - Gaming - thinking of swaping ps3 for a wii, some questions about the wii...

@all pointing out value of wii and ps3...

here's the lowdown, these are all brand new units. i'll just be posting the cheapest ones i can find.

ps3 40gig - 17,500 Php - 388.88 US dollars @ 45 pesos to a dollar

wii - 18,000 Php - 400 US dollars

Xbox 360 go pro - 17,700 Php - 393. US dollars

these are all new and never opened. you can probably get a wii or a x360 cheaper but those have been "opened" and "modified"

importing is also out of the question as taxes would just make it expensive as hell.

so me thinking about swapping my ps3 to a wii isnt that far fetched as i would be spending the same amount buying a wii or a ps3. i could get a wii for 14k Php = $311.11 but no warranty what so ever.

Edited :)

If it's easy for you to get a PS3 back, then go ahead :P

i thin the wii has muhc more potential and promising future, as it is the top selling console by far
anyway you should just sell the ps3 somewhere else and buy a wii...and then something more

The grass is always greener on the other side but in this case the toll on the way back is higher than on the way there (by a few hundred bucks).

I have all three systems and I say don't do it.

The Wii is great for company (fun to make miis of family members and bowl a few frames), and it has a lot of fun pick up and play type of stuff. But very few games have real depth other than Mario, Metroid, and Zelda (which plays better on cube by the way). For me the novelty wore off really quick and it got boring. Mine just sits there, waiting for the next AAA Nintendo game or family function and that's about it.

I'd take a PS3 or 360 over the Wii any day of the week. The constant volume of quality first and thrid party software, the online experience, the graphics, their just isn't any comparison.

DON'T DO IT

ok, so i've had my ps3 for a little over 2 months now and i'm loving it. but i happen accross a guy who's trading his wii for a ps3 and i'm tempted as hell. but i remembered that sometime ago, i sold my psp to buy a ds and i regreted that decission. not that the ds is bad, its fun and all but just not my cup of tea. so i ended up selling it and buying another psp which i then traded for my curernt ps3.

though i'd prefer to have both consoles, i have to cut some corners due to the rising cost of living. so my questions are

1. i like my games pretty, so hows the visuals? i owned a ps2 and an xbox, is the graphic difference similar to these 2? if its like the difference between the ps2 and the xbox, then i can live with that.

The graphical difference is higher than that. For the beautiful Wii games like Galaxy and Brawl think about Xbox + graphics. Especially shading and lightning is much better than the Xbox, but polyon number and textures about the same.

2. do all the games require me to swing the wiimote around? i know its fun but for long gaming sessions, i'd rather be sitting down.

No, I played 50 hours of Fire Emblem with the classic controller. There are very few games that actually need to played standing. Zelda uses the wiimote, but can be played sitting, cause you use it for aiming and swinging.

3. hows the build? the ps3 looks really nice and elegant but is huge like a whale. is it like made of cheap plastic or is it sturdy?

It's by far the most gorgeous console ever build. It's very small and stylized.

4. how long does the wiimote battery last or how fast does it suck out the life out of a standard battery?

20 hours. Buy the Nyko charger station, it's great and you'll never be out of batteries.

5. if i let go of my ps3 i'll be giving up ac, uncharted, dmc4, gta4, mgs4, and future releases such as gt5 and ffxiii. what games and future games on the wii can compensate for these loses? by the way, no amout of games can compensate for ffxiii as i am a fucking fanboy but 4-5 aa rpgs can at least soften the pain.

RPG's: Arc Rise Fantasia, Fragile, Oboro Muramasa, Symphonia 2, Shiren 3, Final Fantasy: CC, Little King's Story and many more to come.

6. i heard wii has an online feature with downloadable games, but doesnt have a hdd...so where does those dl go? memcard or something? how fast does it fill up?

The Virtual Copnsole offers downloads from NES, SNES, Sega MegaDrive/Genesis and Master System, Turbografix, N64, NeoGeo. These games are usually rather small in size. They get stored on the flash memory or on an SD card. Once downloaded you can always re-download again.
It's an amazing library. WiiWare is great as well (Mega Man 9!)

7. whats with the crazy wheel addon? does it even work for you? i mean, a good racing wheel will do wonders for gt but a floating wheel? (ok, i'm just really curious about this..how does it pan out?)

Don't use it, it sucks

8. lastly, knowing that i prefered the psp over the ds, is the wii like the ds of game console while the ps3 is the psp of game console? coz that would be the deciding factor here..

It just depends on what you like. But I don't think that analogy works. Both PS3 and Wii already have a better library than the PSP. The DS outdoes the PSP by miles in this area, but still you prefer the PSP.

thanks

thanks to those who took the time to answer my questions. also thanks to all who offered their advise.

i'm still not sure but i'm leaning on keeping my ps3. and probably save up for a wii, hopefully i'll have enough by x-mas.

thanks all. ^_^

Keep the ps3. You obviously want both, and both are excellent gaming devices, but it will be much cheaper to keep the ps3 and buy a Wii later on than to go with a (used) Wii and be forced to rebuy a ps3 later on.

keep both, but wait for xmas to get it...

right now third parties for the wii are none, even nintendos games are uninteresting as now... at least new ip.

right now i am very disappointed, after the brawl hype went down on me there is nothing on the horizon on the wii for keeping it.

Since when is it important who made the game? If I'm playing a game there's not one minute I actually think: "aaah I'm playing a third party game, so awesome".
Galaxy, Zelda:TP, Metroid 3, Fire Emblem would be among the best games on any system. Nintendo is one of the best software creators in the world, period. You may not like them, but the quality is undisputed.

"After the Brawl hype went down", might as well say after the MGS4 hype went down. None of the systems have anything really interesting in the near future, because the big stuff comes around the holidays.
Nothing on the horizon is ignorant with Fatal Frame 4, Symphonia 2, Samba di Amigo, De Blob, MadWorld, Tenchu 4 etc. coming.

Do not swap you will regret it. PS3 has a lot more to offer than the Wii.
