Not all video games are space operas. I'm far from being one of those literary elitists who bluntly state video games can't be well written even though I've read much of what is widely regarded as the best sci fi the genre has to offer.

I'd say that Mass Effect has high production movie level script writing, but I think most will agree that doesn't necessarily amount to much. I won't even put it into the context of Sci-Fi script writing for "these days" as though movie writing had some sort of magical period during which all true classics were created, which to many would be any time period but the present.

Even classics such as Blade Runner were not well received at all during its time and took at least a decade and a re-evaluation before it was given its due regard.

For everyone,

Video games can be well-written and there are games that are well-written.

I would hope no one would bluntly disagree with that.

If they really felt that way and weren't just playing devil's advocate, maybe they should find another hobby and/or another site to input their 2 cents.

Metal Gear is not one of them.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

The vast majority are written far worse.

The same goes for most movie scripts as well.

The vast majority are not 15+ million dollar budget games that get 10/10's.

Don't make me dig up all the games in the same budget range with retard level writing. They're out there in abundance.

It depends what you mean by bad writing.  Technically, the writing in MGS is not bad.  The basic theme of 4, what happens when companies run war, isn't so bad.  Stylistically it is immature, convaluted, and melodramatic.  Yes, there are worse.  But no game series, with a bad story, is so beloved for its story as MGS.

That's how I got my tag.

Why is it that people are better writers than others?
