| trestres said: @Pooper: Because Japan is the only place in which a FF has defined a generation. Plus userbase ratio to game, Japan is Huge, the other regions are just high. Compare GTA with FF in the west, there's no comparison since the difference is extreme. And if you check, FF X-2 and FFXII have all been decreasing in sales since FFX. FFXII sold 1 million less than FFX in America. FFXII sold 1.4 million less than FFX in Others. While Japan remained almost the same. It's obvious that FF is a big franchise in the west, but not even close to be the biggest, for example Zelda, Mario, Halo, GTA, Smash Bros, GT, Mario Kart, MGS, Gears of War are all bigger. So any game in any of those franchises will be bigger than FFXIII. |
Back in the day you would be correct about FF not being relevent in the west but FF7 brought the series to the mainstream. As for the declining sales figures I think that more directly corilates to the quality of the games getting worse more then a declining interest in the series.
That's why the quality of FF 13 is critical and why its interest at E3 will be high. If FF 13 sucks then I'll probobly be putting the series down for good personally.
