Forums - Sales Discussion - PS3 will sell around 3million units in others alone in december 2008

@Soriku, these Wii games are NOT system sellers, most of these titles ONLY nintendo fans cares(those 24 mln. from GC userbase).

PS3 is going to have MUCH more proven tittles. Wii is going to have MUCH more casual non-gamers stuff.

@Kasz216, it behind only BECAUSE PS2 already had it SECOND Christmas in Europe, PS3 is only going to have.

PS2 was released in November in europe... and had massive supply shortages. It's Christmas boost at that time wasn't a "real" one.

It moved 400,000 consoles that month. Less then the over a million it's behind. PS2's heavy supply constraints is the only thing keeping it close.

It sold 250,000 in June.

In otherwords it's christmas boost was less then double... why Supply constraints. If you want to take out that extra 150K or so... PS3 is still behind about a million.

That extra Christmas did nothing for the PS2 because they didn't have the euro stock to execute it.

So... yeah.  That's not why.

Its gonna be though but it can happen and if it does thats great.

Well the NES sold around 60 million, so there are more than enough Nintendo fans that still need a Wii. That's even without new gamers that might be convinced by mature games like Kid Icarus and Fatal Frame. Or JRPG fans that are sick of waiting on PS3 JRPG's to come, that like the idea of playing Symphonia 2 and Arc of Fantasia.

PS3 is going to have much more proven titles: That's the story for a while now is it. But we have seen most of that list pass by without any real result. So now we're down to FF and GT. And then what?

The only thing I know for certain is that this thread will probably be almost as entertaining as the GTAIV will kill the Wii thread.

Again, public perception, public perception matters.

How is the PS3 going to magically jump up when it's currently met with apathy from the general public right now, even following the release of MGS4?

Besdies which... system sellers are mostly definined by the winning console.

How did PS1 get system sellers? The PS1 was popular, so a lot of people got to play the games and the most popular became system seller.

What happened to all the SNES system sellers during the era of the PS1?

Seriously, Sony doesn't have a clue what it's doing. At the very least GT5 and God of War 3 should have been ready for this holiday. They have some momentum going, but I think the weak holiday line-up will kill the momentum.

I can see a strategy.

The PS3 wasn't designed to do PS2 numbers right out of the gate, it was designed for a long term future (IMO this is obvious considering costly hardware specs).

IMO short term goals:

1) Push HD DVD out of the market. (accomplished)
2) Provide people a good reason for upgrading towards HDTV. The PS3 already had a very positive effect on the HDTV market according to market research. Sony expects to become market leader by 2011 in unit sales, they are already very close to the current market leader in terms of revenue.
3) Outsell the 360 to not allow Microsoft to take much advantage of cheaper pricing. (going well so far)
4) Keep the PS2 attractive and in mass production, penetrate economically less wealthy markets.
5) Get consoles online.

IMO long term goals:

1) Mature the PS3 software library and operating system. Reduce the PS3 costs and adapt the hardware to suit the mass market the upcoming years.
2) The PS3 will make the transition towards a PS4 more seamless, take Playstation Home with you to your next console, easier to implement backwards compatibility, game engine modernization making it also easier to get the most out of follow-up consoles.
3) Long lifecycle, eventually the most interesting multi-featured console on the market and of course to better PS2 sales when the time is right.

IMO most of this couldn't be achieved with a PS2.5.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

right....it was all part of their plan.

1) they planned to lose 3.3 billion dollars in the first 2 years

2) they planned to let the wii wipe the floor with them especially in their home market

3) they planned to let the 360 take most of the 3rd party exclusives from them, and let Wii take all the Japanese support

4) they planned to panic and say desperate things in the media

5) they planned to corporate downsize

6) they planned on letting Nintendo become are far more valuable company than Sony even though Sony is much larger.

7) they planned to fire Ken kutaragi

8) they planned to get rid of BC
