Forums - Gaming - PS3 Versus X360. One question here.

I got my 360 because it had the games I wanted to play (Halo 3, Gears of War, Bioshock, Fable 2). I soon discovered some old friends had 360s and were easily added through messenger which was a cool bonus.

PS3 is probably a better made machine, its more reliable than the 360 and a good deal quieter, but its lack of games and cost can be off putting to many or the mainstream.

Best way to judge is which console has the games you want to play?
What have your friends got?

Cross platform games are not largely different on PS3/360, the 360 usually coming out on top if you were to not pick through the details.

If you must have MGS4 or Gran Turismo then its a PS3 for you.

PS3 smashes the X360 every week in worldwide console sales. PS3 has the best games. It has Blu-Ray. PS3 has the best online gaming.

I always wanted to get a PS2, but videogames ruin social lives.. so I waited till I moved in with my gf (it was over anyways.. right??).. That happened while the 360 had a library, and the PS3 had hmm.. not much.

Before I had never owned a Playstation console and actually had a 360 before I had my first, but I knew I was getting a PS3 before I got a 360 (which was sold). I owned various Nintendo consoles (Snes, Nintendo 64 and now a DS) and before this a Coleco Vision.

I was more into home computer gaming like the Commodore 64, Atari ST, Amiga and later PC gaming when Quake got released. I'm more a technical kind of guy, have been writing a lot of technical articles in the past and advised companies. I got interested in the PS3 due to the Cell processor and due to the PS3's general hardware architecture.

I prefer Sony over Microsoft. I also prefer Nintendo over Microsoft due to various reasons. But if they would build a truly top class console in the future, I am open towards the idea of getting one. But due to my 360 woes I have become more skeptical.

PS3 vs 360 sales

Doesnt matter to me who made it. I bought the 360 to play HD next gen games when Gears came out and when I heard Sakaguchi was only working with Microsoft, I knew that I would get my JRPG fix as well.

When the PS3 launched, I was dumbfounded at how much it would cost me, even when they said big titles like FF13 and Killzone 2 will be out in 2008. (and during that time it was like eons away, imagine what it feels like now.) The launch titles totally didnt speak to me. Also, I had the idea that the PS3 would have the most JRPGs as well but none were to be found.

I perhaps would have bought the price cut PS3 if the 360 wasnt delivering the games that I wanted but thats not even close to happening. There are too many games to buy as it is.

I am planning to get the Wii or another DS Lite this holiday though.

Don't really care about the company behind the console but Sony have consistently made games/console that apeal to my needs , the same can't be said of Nintendo or Microsoft.

I love the ps3 for two reasons:

1. Sony's awesome 1st/2nd party developers. Some of my favorites: Naughty Dog, Team ICO, Insomniac, Sony Santa Monica, Sucker Punch, and Media Molecule (assuming they stay on as 2nd party).
2. It can do so much. My 60gb can play all ps1/2/3 games, Blu-Ray, upscale DVDs, etc.

Overall, I tend to be more of a Nintendo fanboy!

Still, I made the decision to buy one of the two HD-consoles;

Here is how I made my choice:

PS3 vs 360!

Price 400 vs 300.

Format Blu Ray vs HD-DVD (already dead by that time).

HDD 40GB vs 20GB (Except for Elite but that's way too big for me... For that kind of storage I have my PC at 1.2 terabyte).

Games Less big games on PS3 at that time... Although it had MGS4 coming, which I knew I wanted. 360 games you can also get on PC except for maybe Halo 3. And my PC can handle that stuff so obvious choice there.

Quality I don't like the fact of knowing something is gonna crash sooner or later whilst I paid 300 euro's for that specific piece of hardware. I'm talking about RRoD... If that stupid Hardware malfunction wasn't around I might have bought a 360 instead... But we'll never know I guess... Also, the DVD-9 format for a HD console is not well suited I.m.o. Also, the original Xbox had only a lifespan of 4-5 years. Buying an X360 in the beginning of 2008 wouldn't be of that much use when you can pick up a PS3 that i.m.o is a better choice for your money a.t.m!

So, from the standpoint of a Nintendo fanboy; Go PS3... It's worth the extra 100$ (or euro's). But that's just my opinion!

PS; I really don't care what company is behind what console (except for Nintendo consoles, but I buy everything they publish in terms of Hardware).

I don't care because I know I'm so small to these multi-billion dollar companies that it doesn't matter what I buy or don't buy to them and thus I won't let my ego get in the way of that!

I bought a 360 because i was a xbox owner. I love my 360 because is and xbox but so much better. More power, Better online, Better, better desing, better controller, and the main reason... it has the better games.
