They do, but usually only for launch week and milestones. Each time a console passes a million mark they announce it. Wii passing 3m should be the next announcement.

so you're saying the wii hasn't passed the 3m mark yet, like we have at vgchartz?

I'm not sure they always do it, for DS I can't remember they announced it every time they crossed another million. A also wonder if they announce it themselves or that in most cases the manufacturers themselves announce crossing those marks.
In all cases, both chart-track or nintendo has not announced this fact, which suggest that it's not the case for the moment, with the numbers they have.

You're right, they don't always do it for handhelds, but they do most times. As for manufacturers; usually Chart-Track just announce it themselves through MCV, but Sony did pre-empt it prior to PS3 passing 1m by announcing it themselves, although this is unusual.
Sorry, I'm away at the moment and too busy with work to search myself, but if you search the MCV news section you will find most Chart-Track million announcements there.
As for Wii 3m, I was unaware VGC had it past that already, but as Lombard said, Chart-Track probably don't have it that high as they or Nintendo would probably have announced it already. I remember it was also the case with 360 passing 2m here a little while before Chart-Track announced it.
For DS they've announced it everytime, but I can't find the PSP 2m announcement, or 360 1m announcement. If anyone has links to those please post.
Wii 1m August 2007
Wii 2m January 2008
360 2m April 2008
PS3 1m March 2008
NDS 1m January 2006
NDS 2m November 2006
NDS 3m March 2007
NDS 4m October 2007
NDS 5m January 2008
PSP 1m December 2006
