@mikey: now Chrome Gadget's going to be stuck in my head all day long.

@Pristine: I don't think I've ever heard any Ar Tonelico music, to be honest. Any songs in particular you recommend?

@kurakasa: He's before my time, I'm afraid. But I'll look him up.

@slimebeast: ...y'know, it's been fifteen years, and I didn't realize that until you pointed it out.

Sonic 3 and Knuckles have some of the best composed midi songs ever. I really wish new sonic games would rework those tunes instead of giving us bland guitar rock...

Castlevania SOTN is the best tho. The whole game is amazing but this is the best boss tune I've ever heard...period.

Golden Sun. Probably the best (original) soundtrack on the GBA.

Nobody else seems to like it, but I like a lot of the old classic Kirby music and the original music of Pokemon R/B/G

Kirby music is awesome!  And Pokemon was great as well.  I listen to the the (emulated) soundtracks for Kirby Dreamland 3 and Kirby Super Star all the time, it's good stuff.  Catchy, fun, energetic.  There's really nothing quite like Kirby music.

The greatest composers of video game music are Kō Ōtani (of Shadow of the Colossus fame) and Koji Kondo (older Nintendo), with Motoi Sakuraba (tri-Crescendo) coming in a respectable third.

Some favorite pieces by each:

Kō Ōtani - A Violent Encounter

Kō Ōtani - Revived Power

Kō Ōtani - The Open Way

Koji Kondo - The Lost Woods Them/Saria's Song

Koji Kondo - Clock Town Theme

Koji Kondo - Gerudo Valley Theme

Motoi Sakuraba - Leap the Precipice

Motoi Sakuraba - Breeze the Conductor

Motoi Sakuraba - A Wall with no Front or Back

I like Kirby music too.  Butter Building is one that stands out, but maybe that's because of the awesome Brawl version I've been hearing a lot recently.

@ noname: chrome gadget always gets stuck in my head when I hear it.

:D

I think these (gaming related songs) are pretty awesome;

Sector Sweep - Half Life 2 Episode 2.

Still Alive - Portal.

Music you hear in the menu of MGS4.

Music you hear during the credits of MGS4.

Gah, I hated that song. Not because it's bad (far from it!), but because the difficulty of that fight already left my nerves on the edge as it was: I didn't need any help from the music, thanks! (Man, I hate those two so much).

@makingmusic: I'd forgotten about Kondo somehow. Which is funny, because everyone on the planet over the age of three knows at least one of his tunes.

On an unrelated note, I went back and listened to some Ace Combat music again. Yep, it's still good, especially part six.
