I wonder if these executives spent as much time trying to understand the success of the Wii (and understanding gamers in general) as they did trying to come up with ways of dismissing its success if they would be able to produce a much more successful product.

But they have it´s not a fad only now it´s a karaoke machine, and since both MS and Sony are trying to get a Wii mote like controller for their consoles they are trying to get into the karaoke market.

Since they are aiming for karaoke market then VGC has to change it´s name since it´s tracking their sales. It should be called Karaoke charts.

 

the "graduate" part is what i was talking about, changing fad to kareoke is new but its not exciting :)

It sounds like he changed "fad" to "novelty"

Its very strange, the last 2 generations of Nintendo hardware were dismissed as 'for kids' due to the majority of first party, brightly coloured cartoon styled games. Now anyone with half a brain knew this wasnt quite so straight forward. Now Nintendo have purposly aimed at much older gamers with things like braintraining, wiifit and so on, we get this idoit going on about 9 yr olds playing the wii.

The reason why Nintendo are doing so well is they appeal to so many people, not just the very young, almost everyone I know owns a wii, be them hardcore gamers or not and many have them sat beside a 360 or PS3. MS will NEVER achieve the same market appeal becasue theyre governed by bald, boring old execs like this monkey who's best attempts on surveying the mainstream market is trying to copy Nintendo after 2 years of ignoring their existance.

When asked about Nintendo's de-emphasizing of hardware power with the Wii, with Gamasutra's interviewer suggesting that "...if they keep going down this path, they don't really need to make a Wii 2", Microsoft's Greenberg pointedly suggested:

That comment is also so way out there. So because Nintendo tried another way then massivly improve performance & power they might aswell not improve performance at all anymore?

I just want to make some stattements about myself and not say anything about the article. The Wii is the first gaming system I have ever bought. The only games that I have for it are Wii Sports and Wii Play. Man do I love karaoke. That is all.

hit the win button on the wii long enough and you gain intelligence points, then once you level up, a simple minded casual wii owner gains the brain power to control the oh so complicated 360/ps3 controller. The final level allows them to move up to the keyboard and mouse for gaming. XD
