Lack of ToH talk = Fail.

*Goes to Namco Tales forums*

The reason why there isn't any ToH talk is simple:the series fanbase is pretty vocal but also fairly small compared to CT's fanbase

"keep in mind guys that the article had concept art and the such for the original game, so that might be screens from the snes version and not the ds version. I’d wait to see dual screen screenshots before saying they aren’t updating the graphics."

Quoted from someone on that site.

CT was pretty much the pinacle of 2D graphics and since the DS runs at basically the same resolution as the snes, what exactly did you expect? Throwing it into 3D would have ruined it, or atleast changed it drastically. Some people are just never satified.

If has a new dungeon, new wireless multiplayer and probably a few more tweaks. I look forward to playing it again. With the ridiculous price the snes cart sells at, im sure theres a lot of eager newer SE fans who cant wait to try out a game with so much hype.

This is a port+, not a remake. That said, for me these factors were the things I was looking for in a Chrono Trigger remake:

-Maintaining the style and feel of Chrono Trigger (done)

-Fixing translation errors from the SNES version (obviously will be done)

-Portability. I prefer my remakes on handhelds so I can carry the greatness with me. (also done)

The graphics will look a lot better on the DS screens than on an SDTV or HDTV on Virtual Console. You also get the portability this way, wireless features, and new dungeons. This is a much better way to do Chrono Trigger for me, and I prefer the original 2D graphics (which were quite possibly the best on the SNES) to a 3D style for this game. Chrono Trigger isn't the same style as FF, and 3D would actually hurt it.

never played these games but im glad their on the DS
its really pulling through with some major exclusives
and i've heard so much about CT, that i HAVE to buy it

though like others, i do agree the graphics are
a bit ancient, but then again, many of the best games
put gameplay first and graphics later, right? RIGHT?!

CT looks the same, but remember, DS has 2 times more screens than any other 7th generation console. I am wondering how it will look like on TWO screens...my guess that one screen will be "moving area" (touch screen) and second screen (top) will be for a minimap and other stuff, something like in Summon night.

Well it's propably not the third time for you guys to buy the game... that's why I'm disappointed.. If they bring it in this form I rather have a VC version.. I wanted a Remake not a port+

How would they have to do the remake in your opinion? 3d graphics would suck imo.

Yes that was my opinion also at first, they shouldn't change a game from 2d to 3d.. but that was before Final Fantasy III DS.. It really felt if I was playing a new game.. Not only because of the graphics but also the little tweaks: nameless party characters were given new default names. They were given new personalities and background stories, and additional scenes were added to develop their individuality... they could develop Lucca better for instance.. or Robo..

I hoped Square would do the same like FFIII.. but it seems they won't..

FFIIIDS would have been shunned if they didn't make it seem like a new game.  I think the only thng that has to be done for CTDS is a new localization that is more faithful to the Japanese script since certain details of the story had to be cut from the original SNES version due to space limitations.

Why would it have?? Final Fantasy III is the only FF game with a Remake.. there is no other port... they could have easily put out a version with SNES graphics like FFI & FFII.. but they didn't..

Like Naznatips I hoped the could maintain the style and feel of Chrono Trigger but then in 3D..

@nine0nine.. I would have been statisfied with a real remake on the DS and a VC release of the original..

But like valdens (thank you for the info) said: let's wait and see..

Japanese RPGs seem to be under scrunity from Western critics, that is why FFIII might have been shunned if it wasn't for the changes that were made

3D doesn't do anything for the feel of Chrono Trigger.  Maybe in cell shading, but even then it had such a strange mix of environments that cell shading would have difficulty expressing it.  I'm sure these are thoughts that went through their minds when making this on the DS.
