Forums - Gaming - Gears of War VS Resistance: Fall of Man - Graphics Comparison!

"Uncharted looks better than Gears. Resistance looks about equal to Gears from the two screenshots given. I don't really like Gears though. The soldiers look and act just like bulkier Sam Fisher clones, and although the scene in the picture above for Gears is well-lit making it look better, most of the game actually takes place in dark environments where you can't really tell if the graphics are good or not...most of them don't impress me much more than the last gen XBOX game Max Payne, and for some reason the makers of Gears thought that the fact that they could get a significant portion of their game to only use 2 colors -- black and white -- was a wise artistic decision which I don't find to be the case.'"

"You just pissed away any credibility for a non biased comparison with that statement..."

No, I didn't.  The reasons I list above contribute greatly to the reasons that I don't like Gears.  If Gears didn't do the things that I mention that I don't like about the game, then I would like it better.

I wonder how many of these Gears heads that seem to enjoy the game so much have played Uncharted or Resistance in their entirety.  I've played Gears right up to final boss to see if I could find anything great about it, and there really wasn't that much.  Maybe the rush of the action at spots, but I've seen better.

I have played both (beat Uncharted and played a lot of RFoM). I thought Uncharted was fun for what it was but RFoM left me feeling very flat. It was a pretty generic shooter IMO. I have high hopes for the second game, though.

Gears is still my favorite console shooter this generation. Personally, I thought the game was brilliant for what it was (ie. another space marine shooter with a heavy online bent to it).

Around the Network

I say it's just the reverse Zapp. In the US, its dominant country, the 360 seemed to have much more hype at its launch -- what with people paying up to $4,000.00 and more to get their hands on a 360 at the time of its release -- that didn't happen with the PS3 -- although to a great extent the same type of marketing practice has fueled the Wii's success this generation. Keeping people that don't really know anything about games for the most part buying the system because of word of mouth and a situation in stores where demand always exceeds supply.

Given the amount of hype that Gears has had ever since its release, I would expect it to blow any PS3 title out of the water graphically; however, it clearely doesn't do so. Resistance, judging from the pictures above, Uncharted, and MGS 4 all clearly demonstrate that the best PS3 games have better graphics than the best 360 games.

Well I've played Resistance about half way and got bored...the game benefited from being a launch title for sure as it doesn't compare to best FPS games that came out around the same time or a bit later.  I played the Uncharted demo only and the demo looks great. There is nothing interesting about the game to me however...average looking guy thats kind of an asshole gets his plane shot down(rightfully so as he is an asshole) on an island with locals that have weapons. What happens next? I don't really care...

Gameplay wise he obviously spent some time with Lara Croft and picked up her moves as well as learned some cover techniques that he saw in Merceneries or Gears...

If I were a fighter, and I were fighting, and training for two years, and you wanted to fight me, but you were only training for one year, what would you say? "I want to fight, but I don't want to fight you as you are now. I want to fight the man you were last year".

It doesn't work like that. In 2005, the PS3 was a no show. In 2006, the 360 had the more graphically impressive game. Hands down. In 2007, the PS3 was the winner, with Uncharted (despite some obvious 2D shrubbery, and vines on trees). Come November, we'll know who wins in '08. And I'll buy that game....And it's runners up.....And a couple Wii titles.....and some nachos.

I haven't played Resistance, so I can't really comment on that one except to say that it's graphics look much better in the pictures above.

However, I'm 95% of the way through Uncharted and up to the boss on the train surrounded by the Kryll in Gears, and Uncharted is a much better game. It's a great adventure story on par with those found in the best Indiana Jones films and Talbot Mundy novels.

However, storywise Gears is just another bland Starship Troopers, Halo wannabe. And it is definitely not deserving of any of the hype it has received.
