Forums - Gaming - which do you like more the 2D or 3D era

It's so hard to tell but since your question about the ERA, I'll consider games such as SSBB and New Super Mario Bros as 3D era rather than 2d.

I grew up playing 2D games and to be honest, I'm not sure what I prefer. Sure, 2D platformers had more action than 3D platformers (Sonic, DKC) but I really liked Banjo-Kazooie and Super Mario 64 so I can't tell which I prefer. I would say 2D only because there were more games than 3D in the platforming genre.

Some genres are much better with 3D: RPG, FPS, racing games, sports games, etc.

I can't really say I prefer either era. The only thing I can think of is I believe that with games costing more to produce nowadays, there are less quality titles coming that there was.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

No. Tekken is 3D. In Brawl you don't have true 3D freedom like Tekken or Virtua Fighter. I'm not complaining. I'm saying that in this case simpler is better.

hmm if SSBB is considered 2D then i might have to think again which i like more

2D Era for sure.... the video games were something amazing that no one has seen before and it was pretty exiting to be the only kid on the block to have a SNES :D

Depends on the genre

For fighters, platformers and rts 2d all the way. More of a fan of streetfighter series than I am of the DBZ and the naruto fighting games where you have to constantly run around and lock on. Platformers... none of the new platformers really have anything on the old ones if you want a challenge for you reflexes and timing. And RTS starcraft... need I say more?

For Racing and shooters 3D.

I prefer 2D gaming, but I played a NES from ages 2-6... then when I was 6 I got an N64 an loved it. Still, many genres seem superior in 2D to me. Thats partially why I love the PSP- sure it can do 3D competently enough that it is easy to tell what is going on, but 2D can look beautiful on that thing.

2D games are limited 3D games have way more freedom.
OoT was WAY better than LttP IMO.

Well, games have just evolved to so much more since the 2D games of yore. So I think I'll prefer the current 3D era (I still get to play awesome 2D games on my handhelds and downloaded games anyway). :p
