Forums - Nintendo - Wii sales continue to astound me... Will Wii match PS2 LTD in 1/2 the time?

Since the topic was brought up I will point out that the PS2 will gain ~10M units in the next 16 weeks on the aligned launch chart. In short, the PS3 won't be able to keep up and the Wii won't be able to maintain the ridiculous margin of its lead even in this flawed comparison.

@KN,

You are right though, the Wii is doing pretty fantastic and while its not appropriate to look at this graph and say the Wii will continue at this rate relative to the PS2 its certainly fair to say that it could break some records. Both the PS2 and Wii had/have supply issues so staggered launches are part of the business, the easiest way to say this is that you can use aligned launches to compare the past but not to predict the future.

sqrl: Nintendo plans to ship 28 million (!) units this fyear. That's around 8 million higher than PS2's best year.

@Montana: yeah, but it's still amazing to best the best sold console ever.

I wasn't aware of PS2 launch being that staggered. Color me informed. It's still amazing when, all things considered, the Wii looks to be on a fairly easy glide path to 40M+ units in customer hands by the end of 2008... Lock the thread if it is that bad of a post as I was just posting a simple observation.

@Montana -- yeah, slacker me -- I usually try to research something before I post it but I have been very busy trying to find an 80Gig MGS4 bundle. I saw a couple at Target this last weekend but it was FAR from home and I'm not making that trip. I'll call around a bit but I suspect I'm not going to find one...

I hate trolls.

It's fine, just that the argument can be used in the other light (PS3 selling as fast as PS2!).
