Forums - Gaming - Most recent gaming disappointment?

F.E.A.R

Great game I guess, just couldnt get into it. Too long between fights and my comp isnt capable of running it at anything other than near minimum specs.

I don't know if you'd call it recent, but Star Wars Galaxies was the biggest disappointment I've ever had in video games. I've never seen a video game company treat its customers so badly. Not only that, their code was so buggy that their servers had to be rebooted every day. On top of that it was the most expensive MMORPG at the time. It pretty much made me swear off any SOE game forever and seriously question anything to do with Sony.

For me Motorstorm. Very great visuals and engaging gameplay but only 2 modes and limited tracks.

Yeah, it's good for playing around and playing online but it's too bare bones.

DLC will add to it in the future though.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Enchanted Arms, oh don't get me wrong, I liked the game, but in a "Snakes on a Plane" sort of way...

Chromehounds, after the balance issues became more apparent...

Phantasy Star Universe, most boring game ever...

Fear was also a little disappointment for me. The visual was breathtaking but the gameplay was repetitive and boring. The game was short also. They put so much work in visuals they forgot about some basic physics. You can melt people to bones with the ray gun, slice in half with a shotgun, blow heads to blood mists but you can not take down shelves or desks. So much attention to gore they forgot what happens to an office when you use a frag grenade. The shelves and desks are glued to the wall. That lack of realism is inexcusable in a game where you can see your shadow, your foot and hundreds of empty bullets capsules as you fire.

Bust-A-Move Bash for Wii.

How can you mess up a game a simple, and fun, as this? The arcade versions put this piece of rubish to major shame.

Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.

I saw excellent workmanship in the game. It's got tons of good ideas and cool graphics/art.

But the game terribly failed on other things (not just the Ocean King temple): combat, item, progression, story, dungeon design, and character presentation.

I'm not going to explain each point here, but let me just say it all comes down to this: LoZ:PH was very-well crafted but wasn't very fun.

Aonuma might have been faithful to Nintendo's RPG formulas, but he must have forgotten that, above all things, game must be fun.

It's just a pity because it could have been a superb game. I've pretty much lost trust in his ability to create a fun RPG, and by extension Miyamoto's ability to supervise it. I don't think I'll buy Zelda series for a while.

NiGHTS for the Wii.

The graphics were Saturn quality and the game play just not that much fun.
And to think I ended up paying full price to help a friend out who owns a game store (after I passed it up for $35 used, complete) the week before).

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

GTA IV.
Slow, clunky controls, incredibly poor AI, bad soundstrack. Nothing to do besides missions, the fun has been sucked right out of it, MC's are slow as hell, crash cam and other features annoy more than add.
Smaller than its predeccessor and shorter in most ways, exploring the city gains you nothing at all and locales/scenes are very unvaried and tedious in the long run.

I agree with you on a lot of that really. I'm really hoping they don't make the next handheld Zelda game 3D. The 2D ones always seem to have a little more quality ^^;
