hmm
I don't like wow's idea at all. It might be good drama for people to ooo and ah over, but it would stale the list if you could only challenge people one spot ahead of you in the top five. That's not fair for the people who actually wanna play.

It's only for the top 5. The list will still move quickly, but getting higher in the top 5 will be tougher than just getting there. Being in #2 will actually mean you're better than #3, #4, and #5 and not just that you beat only #5 and #3.

But is it fair for you to suddenly be below someone you just beat? All of a sudden you have to beat the same exact person again since you can't challenge the person you just lost to. And if you just beat them, you can't challenge them for another week so you're stuck in that spot for a week unless someone below you beats you. The system is broken as-is. |
I understand the concern, but the system is the way it is to allow for the rankings to keep moving at a reasonable pace and attempt to be fair. If we had it at one step above only, people would be screwed if someone went on vacation or hiatus. Punishing someone who didn't play? Well if the 2nd place person went on a weeks vacation they could be knocked off the rankings list with enough activity. No matter what system we use something isn't going to be fair with it. We've just decided to stick with what we, in our opinion, believe to be fairest.
If your rankings changed, your time to rematch is cleared I believe.
If it were entirely up to me, I'd change the system to a biweekly tournament for points to assign rankings and drop the challenging nonsense. As it stands I work with 4 other people and I'm only really in charge of the rule set.
I still think the initial rankings should have been assigned by a round robin points tournament rather then opinion, but oh well.

No they wouldn't. You already have the if the challenge goes unanswered within X days rule.

I think the same like now tgm is at the bottom even though we know that he is the best here,there should be tournament I am trying to invite some of my friends from other sites to join so we can have more people to help in the league.
If they go on vacation or something they are excused so long as they gave us warning and the excuse is legitimate. That rule is for people who have randomly disappeared.

@wow
But it stops someone like me, a high ranked player, from being able to play on a regular bases. Keep in mind that the whole point of this is fun. How is it fun if you have a really limited number of people you can play with? It would get stale very quickly. We should leave it they it is. That way more people can play each other.

So you can rematch anyone who challenges you the next day? Why won't everyone be doing that? And how is it balanced if you can avoid the person who just beat you? Why even have the ranking at all if you're just going to let someone weaker get ahead of someone stronger that way?

1. yes, but if you lose then you wait the week.
2. the ladder is new! everyone will be placed respectively with time. The ladder is NOT accurate as of yet, but soon will be. Also, someone who is "weaker" may have been "weaker" in those battles that day, but still may very well be the better player. Also, if both players move up in rank or down, then they have a clean slate to openly challenge again.
3. another reason we must give players the opportunity to challenge two places higher and take that position is because we want the league to thrive and it must not go stale.
