After thinking about it, I don't think Wii owners should gripe to Nintendo that much.

They're certainly not abandoning the core fanbase...Nintendo is making Metroid 3, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Bros Brawl...all coming out 2007. I mean, people seem to shrug off the "big 3" as assumed arguments, but these are all HUGE titles made by one company.

If anything, gripe more to the 3rd party developers about making "mini-games."

What about Wii Sports, Wii play, Warioware, and Mario Party 8?

Like I said, Nintendo is making Metroid, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Bros Brawl. Three very large, important, and hopefully quality titles. Those titles, along with Sports, Play, WarioWare, and Mario Party are a lot for Nintendo to make.

Of course Nintendo is making games like Wii Sports, that's the whole ticket to expanding the market. But they're still making 3 very big games this year...so I don't know what the complaint is. And it's not like WarioWare and Mario Party are crap...it still took some work for those too, and they're a lot of fun.

EA, on the other hand, seems to be going the casual route, as well as Ubisoft, although there is Red Steel and SSX Blur.

My point is, yes there's plenty of casual games on the market, but Nintendo is making some HUGE quality titles to be released later this year...so I don't see what people are griping about.

A game was canceled.  Some people were excited about it.  That's something to gripe about.

Also, Mario Party 8 got an average of 68.8% on reviews.  Nintendo still did not address its flaws.

No, people are griping because they seem to think Nintendo has abandoned traditional games. I'm just pointing out that they're making a few big games this year...games you would call traditional. If anything, screw Mario Party...I'm glad Nintendo's working harder on Super Mario Galaxy than they did on Mario Party.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

It's called variety and appealing to everyone... jerk.

what im saying is that is sad because nintendo dosent publish a lot of action games so this one seem pretty cool

Project HAMMER sounded lame to me at E3 last year. It seemed like a neat demo of the Wii Remote, but I was wondering how they were going to make a game out of it. Looks like they couldn't figure it out either.

I hope it's not cancelled.......

I think it's less about traditional games and more to do with HAMMER being a new IP that is traditional. Despite loving them for continuing some great franchises, but their only traditional games are sequels, they're essentially saying they don't see room for new traditional IPs. So are we only going to get new Mario and zelda games? And 4 million brain/party/casual games?

Plus HAMMER was also on a very very short list of mature titles published by Nintendo, fans really want to see Nintendo publish a few more mature themed games. It's hard to encourage 3rd parties to bring them when Nintendo won't even develop them.

About your comments of this just being a hammer swinging game, I can say that about well any game. All I do in 75% of games is shoot people. Some games all I do is punch/kick or swing a sword, its pretty much all the same. Most Mario games that are legendary games you simply jump on peoples heads. Jumping and running are essentially the only moves. I'm sure the hammer would have tons of different moves and attachments that would add various gameplay elements. Heck even if it didn't I spent 70% of my time playing Godfather beating people with the bat, and I'd never get tired of it, swinging the wii-mote and smash stuff is quite fun.

I'm sure though this title was most likely canceled because Nintendo was unhappy with it's production, they are a tough company on their second party titles, but they tend to be unfair on the mature action games, they canceled some great looking stuff at Retro Studios like Raven Blade, and even Metroid Prime came close to being canceled on several occasions. Imagine if we didn't get that title, considering how good it came out. Nintendo really lacks vision and any appeal for the American action games, they really need to think that through.

:O(

It´s not really about the game itself,it could have ended up a flop for all we know...it´s about the IDEA Nintendo has supposedly canned the game in favor of more of these "expanded audience" titles....having all 3 systems, and not being a non gamer,if this is a sign of things to come the Wii will be,by far,my least played system this gen.

You know what really bugs me the more I think about it. Is when nintendo cancels something like this everyone talks about Nintendo's high standards. But they only seem to have high standards when it comes to mature action titles/sports games. They expect these games to be perfect, but when it comes to everyone/party games these standards go right out the window, how did Wii Play get released in it's condition? How about Mario Party? How are they not worried about tarnishing their biggest mascots name in that game? It's like they are saying we love party games so who cares if they suck! This is honestly why Nintendo has a difficult time with all is western 2nd parties, heck even Rare had a hard time with them, I read in an interview with one of the guys who worked on goldeneye and he said there was a bunch of times they came close to canning it. Raven Blade was canceled a realistic racing game, baseball and football title was cancelled, alont with a destruction derby title all by retro, Metroid Prime and Goldeneye were almost cancelled. other realistic sports titled were cancelled, I bet they wouldn't have been if they just dumped Mario and co. in it.

Now I love Nintendo, so I 'm not trying to come off as bias or anything, but it just frustrates me when they completely ignore portions of the market. Please it took fans years of beging to get another Metroid, I can't believe they are talking about another Mario Kart when people have been dying for another entry to Kid Icirus. It's like hello Nintendo listen to your fans every once in a while.
