Forums - Gaming - will halo wars do what halo:combat evolved did?

From what little I've seen of the gameplay, it looks to be interesting, and forthe PC crowd, it might be an interesting buy. Sometimes, it is a nice change-up to play some stuff on the consoel over the PC...not sure I want to start MMOing on consoles anytime soon...but a wel-done RTS might work.

FPS games were expected to bomb when they first were announced to be ported onto console. People said that FPS games could never be any good on console. History repeats itself but with a genre.

In 10 years time we could be laughing at the critics who said RTS games would flop on console. Like as we are laughing at people saying FPS games would flop on consoles when they first came out on console back in the late 1990's.

By the way doomsayers/ critics are complete morons. They are just haters.

will halo wars make it so the rts to becoem very popular on consoles?just like what halo1 did with the fps genre

just like what halo1 did with the fps genre, wasn't there a game called goldeneye. who did something similar but way earlier.

Halo wars has a real chance of making the RTS genre far more viable on consoles. I hope it does. The developers have made some of the best RTS's btw so its going to be a good game. Great if they can make the controls work well.

Halo Wars is being made by Ensemble Studios. They make excellent RTS titles (Age of Mythology is still in my top three, years after release), but they've never made a console game in their entire development history.

The fact that the game is being designed specifically for consoles combined with the pedigree of Ensemble Studios gives me some hope for the game, but in the end it will pale in comparison to PC RTS, primarily because of the controls.

Inevitably, Halo Wars will hit the PC 6-12 months after release with FAR superior controls and a higher pop cap. The PC version will probably sell much better as well. I know it will be the first Halo game I buy, just because I love Ensemble Studios (despite the somewhat mediocre Age of Empires III).

"Halo Wars is being developed from the bottom up for the Xbox 360 [as is] its control scheme to ensure that we deliver a groundbreaking console RTS experience," Microsoft has informed gaming website IGN. "Given that, we have no plans to develop Halo Wars for Windows Vista at this time."

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

Hmmm.. maybe.. but my money is on Tom Clancy's End War to make the RTS popular on consoles..

You go ahead and take their word on that. ;)

Well, if there is any game that has the chance to do it, it sure is Halo Wars.

I very much doubt that existing RTS-fans will flock to consoles just because of a Halo Wars (since the PC will remain the best platform) but at least I hope that many console gamers that today ignore RTS will discover the genre, and future RTS titles on consoles will sell in the millions.

Halo Wars will get +90% on Gamerankings, and sell well over 3 million copies. Thus a true AAA title.

And if there will be an x-mote and Halo Wars supports it, we have a game (and a MS dev team) that will go to history for it's awesomeness and innovation.

Halo did bring FPSs to consoles as well as they could be done. Goldeneye was the first "True" FPS on a console, yes, but you can't say that Goldeneye is a better game than Halo. Control-Wise, there is no contest.
