Forums - Gaming - will halo wars do what halo:combat evolved did?

My first thought was "I hope so." I'd really like to see strategy games in general get a boost on consoles, and I don't care which game leads the way. I'm really hoping that developers realize how great the wiimote would be with strategy games actually designed with it in mind, though. Of course, Halo Wars may be one of those things that uses the "Xmote" that is supposed to be coming along, so I don't think it'd take long for anyone to pick up on the idea if it works for HW.

Also, you need to give up the idea that GoldenEye didn't make FPS popular on consoles. It came along years before Halo, is an FPS, did start the trend, and sold as well as any of the Halo games (look at the million sellers list, it has Halo 2, GE, and Halo 3 one after another). It seems like you're giving Halo the credit because of its controls, and that's a bit silly. Just because it's the most copied doesn't mean it opened the gates for others to do well. I mean, with that logic you couldn't give HW the credit if another game comes along and its control scheme is copied more...

That's not to take away from what Halo did, though.  I'm sure it can be argued that Halo was more influential, but that's neither here nor there.  It simply wasn't the first big influence, and downpalying GoldenEye simply because of the N64's lack of a second analogue stick is a bit far fetched.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

I started playing games because of halo and it's the reason why i love FPS games.
Never got into rts games. many people talk about starcraft but I never played it.

I'm sure there are many people like me out there who would buy Halo wars, and maybe even like rts games. If halo wars sells well on x360, I don't see why developers won't make more rts games for x360.

It has a chance of being a revolutionary step to bring RTS fans to console gaming. Console gaming makes it mainstream so the average Joe can afford to play the game.
StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3 brought to console within 12 months would be a great move and see lots of profits made if they chose to bring console versions of latest PC RTS games.

they would sell like crap and not be worth the money because console owners expect graphics far about what starcraft and diablo 3 will be offering. I know people will try to be "noble" or some bs and say it isn't about graphics, but the very vast majority of gamers don't feel that way. not to mention starcraft and diablo would both have to be dumbed down to work on consoles, but we have been over the starcraft discussion before and with diablo 3 getting the hot button thing going on for skills I expect the pace to pick up for that and playing it with a controller wouldn't cut it.

edit: sorry to take the thread off topic there.  on topic, the game will sell because it says halo on it.  most developers will probably realize this and unless they get controls perfect I expect it will change nothing, half assed ports will come along hoping for a quick buck but they will be mediocre at best.

The vast majority of gamers bought the Wii, DS, PS2, and PS1, and none of them are known for their superior graphics.

If you consider Blizzard as the top of the RTS genre, you would have 3-5 companies in that AAA tier below them that consistantly make good/great rts games. Ensemble, is one of those companies and on their day can make a brilliant game. So it is possible that they could make an excellent game for consoles so long as their inspiration hits the right marks we could have a 3-5 million seller because the name will make people look twice and if there is substance its different enough that people will consider buying it.

Tease.

diablo 3's and starcraft 2's graphics right now don't even look up to Wii's standards.  It would be like taking FFX's graphics and putting it on the Wii, they wouldn't stand up.

I was just responding to your comment that the vast majority of gamers care about graphics.  They don't.  Never have.  Never will.  Remember the Game Boy's cream 4 shades of spinach colos outselling the Game Gear?

Smoke it more and you might say even funnier stuff.

They care about graphics to an extent, but they care a lot more about the popular console as it will have all the games and its graphics will be better than the last generations (ps2 to wii is a big leap). and no I don't remember that, didn't have a game gear, or know anyone that did.

simple answer, no
