Forums - Gaming - reelGamers.com:PSN Vs. XBOX live

in this comparison reelgamers compare xbox live features with PSN after the 2.4 update in 4 main categories.

"Overall: PSN
This will be the hot topic of debate amongst Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 gamers over the coming months and years. With Sony offering all the same features of the Microsoft’s Xbox Live, why should gamers be required to pay $50 per year? It might not seem like a whole lot initially; however, gamers looking to game online for five to six years will end up paying $250 to $300 dollars, the price of the 360 console itself. We love XBL, but with Sony’s recent additions to the PSN, we think it’s time Microsoft halved the cost of entry. Until then, Sony offering their service for free makes Microsoft look like Scrooge McDuck."

Cause a website that doubles in being big movie fans isn't going to be a bit biased towards the system with a built in blu-ray player.

i agree that as of the 2nd of july, xbox live won't be worth it's subscription fee. i however disagree that psn is better than xbox live function wise. halving the cost of xbox live i think is a good idea at this stage though.

I pay for Xbox live and i don't really mind but if they don't improve it in the next 6 months then i'm not going to renew my membership but then i remembered Gears 2 is coming out near then so i'm screwed!

But i have faith in the xbox live team to deliver something truly steller for us, i've had Xbox live since 2005 and i love it but i want them to make it free or do something radical to it because Sony offers near the same now for free.

They missed the primary advantage of PSN over XBL: dedicated servers for PSN. Dedicated servers mean the following:

(1) lower latencies for everyone -- more reliable, faster, professional hosting rather than someone's Xbox on their over-subscribed home connection running bittorrent or kazaa.

(2) No "host advantage" -- that is, the advantage hosts have because they have no latency on XBL, but the shittier their connection is the more advantageous it is for them.

This is the primary reason PSN is better.

yeah i agree but your missing the advantages of P2P, look at Halo for example, stuff like Forge editing would be impossible without P2P

But also dev's love Xbox live as everything is integrated and the service is paid for so dev's don't have to pay for their own servers. I havn't played MGO but apparently logging in is abit tough because of the Konami ID. On Xbox live it wouldn't be so complicated.

(no host advantage in Gears 2 by the way)

250 Xbox Live servers, 4 data centers, and 12 gigabytes/second of bandwidth in support of Xbox Live are all ready to go

It's not just a P2P system.

WoW. Total lies. This is some biased site and should have no credibility. PSN still doesn't some features that XBL has(cross game invite, in game chat) and the content is not even close.

*sigh* Saw this coming a mile away. Although I don't think that in terms of Achievements, it's a tie, until all of PS3 games have trophy support (ok, we know this isnt going to happen) or atleast every game from this point on - 1st and 3rd party - ships with trophy support, XBL will still have the advantage.

^the content of XBL market place has nothing to do with playing online on XBL. you can get that with silver

wow all of a sudden psn is better than live? come on give me a break i like my ps3 and 360 and all but this is ridiculous..
