It's not like you have to sit down and sign a paper and choose which sex you like.  It's an unconscious decision that's made based off of what you have been exposed to in life, and whether you like male genetalia or female genetaila.

Answer me this:  Do you think that if a kid grew up in a really sheltered life, and never ever heard of a man being with a woman, and only ever saw his two fathers (or mothers) and never saw a man and a woman together, or been exposed to the notion that that was the "norm", that he'd like men or women?  I choose to believe that he would also be most comfortable in the presence of another man, and therefore choose men as his sexual preference.

It's definitely not about genitalia.  I know women who are straight, but would rather masturbate to photos of nude women instead of nude men, because they think penises look gross and breasts look great.  However, they only have sex with men and only date men and only fall in love with men, and only want to marry a man and have kids with him.  Does that make them straight or gay or bi or what?

The exposure has nothing to do with it.  Are you arguing that it's a virus spreading throughout society, and to stop it we need to hide it from kids until they're already straight and it's okay for them to see it?

I'd think th at your female friends are weird, and definitely not in the norm (nothing's wrong with that though). I happen to think that sexuality should be presented to kids as early as possible, so that they can make a judgement whether they like the same sex or not, rather than parents not bringing the subject up, since most parents don't want gay kids.

I don't think I'm arguing that it's a virus or anything like that, just arguing that you are able to make a decision to like, or not like a certain sex, but that the decision is heavily influenced by people you are around, and the information (or lack thereof) that you are given on the subject.  I personally never even knew that guys could have sex with other guys for pleasure until I was 13.  At that point, I had already discovered the wonders of the female anatomy, and grew enamored with it, and no one could tell me otherwise that I wasn't supposed to like girls.

By the time I was 13 I knew I could stick my penis into any hole in the universe, so of course anuses (of either sex or any animal) were already options.  I guess you were just a late bloomer?

Anyway, so apparently some people turn out straight and some people turn out gay.  Why are you worried about having kids of a certain sexuality?  If you had a gay kid, would you stop loving them or something?

Thirteen was just an age.  I was just saying that Homosexuality is introduced into life much later than Heterosexuality on the norm.

If I had a kid that was gay, I wouldn't stop loving him/her, but lots of fathers don't like the fact that they would have a son that liked other men or something like that, at least lots of black fathers are like that.  Apparently it makes them feel like less of a man or something, IDK, but I'd be fine with it.  My son/daughter's sexual preference has nothing to do with me. I'd still give my all to make sure that they would be happy.

The world is turning openly gay? God damn rainbows!

On a serious note, I'm actually one of those kids who's the product of a gay father. Strangely, I'm straight, and don't care my father is gay. My brother, also straight, does care my father is gay and dislikes it rather openly. It's like...we're different like normal people despite being from a gay father! Gasp.

by your explanation if you had been exposed to gay sex first, you would have been gay?

If I had been exposed to gay sex and only gay sex first, and it was the "norm" and all I've been around?  Then yes, I'd probably be gay.  If it was presented as well as being straight was presented, then it'd have been a decision that I would have had to make.

If that were true, then we'd have way more gay kids in gay communities like West Hollywood.  However, the kids still come out straight over 90% of the time, even when they're born in a city with a huge gay population and an all-gay city council.

In Iran, even using the word gay could be punishable by death, kids are sheltered around  straight families, however kids are hanged and killed for being gay till today, i wonder why ? And mind you they are not really exposed to anything gay.

I met a guy who told me that when he came out of the closet to his son (he was just over 40, his son was 16-ish or so), his son flipped out and stormed out of the room.

Then 10 minutes later he came back and said, "Sorry dad, if you want to be a fudgepacker, that's fine by me," and gave his dad a hug.

Then later he realized how dumb that was and apologized and now they're really great friends and his son really doesn't care at all.

And yeah, they're normal too.

has it ever been conclusively proven that people can be born gay? I mean it defies logic to me because such individuals would be unable to reproduce and any "gay gene" would be eliminated from the genome fairly quickly imo.

If the answer to above question is "yes, there is a gay gene." I don't really care, but regardless, I will physically harm any guy who starts hitting on me. *shudder*

If the answer is "no, there is not a gay gene." I will avoid them. If they start hitting on me, well, prepare for Judgment Day....

Actually I believe the latest studies have found evidence that is not determined at conception (so not genetical) but rather in the womb in response to certain hormones in the mother.

Anyway, more power to the gays. Since more guys are gay than girls on a percentage basis all they are really doing is tipping the scales in us straight guys favour.

I honestly hate the stigma society has created around homosexuality, especially among young guys its just considered wrong to be gay and gay teenagers are openly abused for it. Out of 1300 boys at my high school there should theoretically been about 130 gay people, there were two that were openly gay. Isn't it sad that such a small percentage felt able to come out?

Homosexuality actually DOESN'T affect other people.  You know that, right?

Homosexuality isn't growing or spreading.

What's happening is people aren't living in fear of having their skulls bashed in by people who are even more uncomfortable and afraid than they are.  Fewer people living in fear is a good thing, no matter how you look at it.

Most mammals have homosexuality and bisexuality.  It's completely natural.

In humans, it's about 10% of men who are predominantly homosexual and 6% of women that are predominantly homosexual, meaning about 8% of humans overall.  These numbers don't count bisexuals.

My question is how will this ultimatley affect us , how much will it do so , will it at all ? And how do you feel about it ?.

It won't affect us.

It won't affect us at all.

I don't care.

To lazy to read entire thread so I will just reply to your post.

It does effect us, some of us anyways. Not meaning anyone on this site, even though it might, but there are people in this world who don't believe that it is morally right to be homosexual or bisexual. These individuals are the ones who negatively effect those 8+% of humans by passing laws that prevent their individual freedoms or in some countries still kill or severly harm them.

The more the law interfers with individual freedoms, like right to marry who you want as a major current example, the more people in that percentage and people who just disagrees with the laws will get more vocal about the issues.

With more people becoming more vocal it could change elections, cause acts of violence, and even go all the way to the extremest extent can create mini-holocausts mattering what countries it happens.

You are right that these people are less afraid of what will physically and emotionally happen to them but they live with the fear that their rights will slowly be elimated.

The outcome of all this will ultimately affect how things happen, what happens, and why they happen.

There's some scientific evidence that homosexuality in men is a genetic disposition that is derived from the mother and not from the father. It seems that women that carry this gene are likely to have more children. So it's not at all strange that you're straight.
