Forums - Sales - How much money is Sony losing with the PSN?

bumidan said:
More likely than not, PSN is bleeding money.

Look at the Games Division financials. Not all those losses are attributed to just PS3 Hardware - unless you think hardware is losing $500 per unit - WHICH IT IS CLEARLY NOT ANYMORE.

Agree with Bod:
Losing Money:
PS3 hardware
PSN (not so much losing money, if it is not really an actual business segment, but COSTING money, nonetheless)

Maybe:
PS3 software (including development costs, etc)
PSP software (don't know much about this)

Yes they are losing money but, its is basically all hardware. Their losses aren't as substancial now, which can be attributed to as you said lower hardware prices. They did lose billions in their first two launch years but that was when they lost over 500 dollars a system. There were actually predictions that their quaterly charts could begin to see the black by the end of the year (not overall but for each quater) , I'm looking for the article now.

none because no one would pay for PSN anyway. The ps3 online play doesn't even compare to the 360's.

That seems like a bit of a troll statement.

Well sony do sell software on PSN don't they ? which will at the very least cover the costs of PSN .

So the answer i believe is nothing.

LOL. PSN doesn't even have software and an install base comparable to XBL so I doubt they are not losing out on it. Including HOME and I bet they are losing a lot of money. Looks like MS are the smarts ones and cashing in big time and we can see the effects(timed exclusives, DLC GTA4)

Wait, I don't get it. I know you don't know what your talking about here but im going to give it a go anyways. First of all, All PS3's have PSN on them right? So the install base is relatively close to that of 360. Secondly, There is some great software sold on the network that they are covering costs with, ever hear of warhawk (just one example don't flame). Yes microsoft is making money off of Live. The DLC for GTA4 will be lucky to cover its expenses. As for timed exclusives, that remains to be seen if they will pay off.

I agree with the others, you'll probably be banned soon but I'll say you make it to 50 posts.

Dead Wrong. There is currently around 9 million users. Some haven't connected their PS3 online. So basically that means 360's user base interms of XBL(17million users) is approx double. And WOW ZOMG!!! how did I forget about Warhawk. Really thats the best PS3 has? BTW how much did it sell? How much did Halo 3 sell again?

My posts are always truthful and always correct as we have seen even a mod agree with me that SONY is losing money on PS3. The only ppl who disagree with me are SONY fanboys who fail to release the truth.

So you begin to sway facts from the beginning of your post... Since when is 9.8 million 9 million? http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/over-9-8-million-registered-for-psn

For xbox live, there are supposidly 10 million registered usershttp://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/ces-2008-microsoft-reveals-xbox-live-stats

When I was speaking on warhawk, i was talking about the PSN download. Can you download Halo 3 from Xbox live? (I honestly dont know) but i know you can download warhawk as many have at 40$ a pop.

Your post was inaccurate so you lied

Actually XBL gold users are 10million. Including XBL silver users it goes to around 17-18milion. So I was right again. Also I said around 9 million so 9.8million so I am technically right. Wow one game. You know how many games XBLA has? Go check the sales chart and see for yourself. Stop trying to spin the numbers fanboy

Ok, how about you provide some proof of this? Because I actually linked evidence. Only a fanboy would spin 9.8 milliion to 9. Didn't you learn in 5th grade math that .50 and higher is rounder to 1. And no, not one game I simply listed that one game as a example. Your struggling hard to win this battle but it wont work, sorry.

BTW this is your second lie in two posts.

There are 17.7 Million XBL users and 10 Million are Gold Members as of 01/07/08. So I am correct again.

LOL first of all, "Microsoft announced there are now 10 million Xbox Live Gold subscribers out of the 17.7 million Xbox 360’s that have been sold worldwide."

Notice that it doesn't say 17.7 million live members. It says 17.7 million 360's sold worldwide. Kthx Once again wrong

Although I couldn't find anything any link I am sure there is atleast 5 million XBL silver users who don't pay.

@ mr. elite

I messaged you about other threads with financials.

I do predict for this coming quarter that Sony Game may make a small profit.

well, until you can prove that, it's pretty much useless in your defence now don't ya think?

@ Pimp

Thats odd, Because all this time you can find no evidence your right yet I can show you multiple links proving you were wayyy wrong. Just admit your defeat and spare yourself more embarrassment.

@bumidan

I too believe that Sony will stay in the black from now on however I was being overly cautious so I didn't get flamed haha you know how it is.

SOE(sony's MMO game designers... shitty ones) was integrated into SCE. Most likely they just use a small part of their servers to run things like PSN and PSS. I highly doubt free online puts them in the red at all.

EA doesnt even make any of the games I mentioned above! I mentioned Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Lair, and Heavenly Sword. I asked if they profited off of those games. EA games are multiplatform.
