Gran Turismo 5 filled up a 50 GB disc. Polyphony wanted uncompressed graphical detail. They wanted the sound of the stick shifting to be so real, they actually used a whole ten gigs of uncompressed audio to get the sound of the stick shift shifting in all 900 of the cars.
