Forums - Nintendo - E3 08, Ninty's definitive/deciding event in this console war?

@Rhonin your basic assumption is correct, game taste was never more important than now.

But just one point: Only using the exclusives for all three consoles gives the Wii an unfair advantage. The best games on PS3 and 360 are PS360 multiplatform games. they have one thing in common they are normally not available on Wii. (GTA, Call of Duty4, Assassin's, Devil May Cry, Civilization, Half-Life2, GTA to name just a few.)

I was just responding to Kurakasa's post, that's why I only used the games from the console manufactures.

Most major 3rd Parties haven't made it clear what their methods will be up until E3, Capcom has made it clear they wan't to remain in the dark about some Wii project, and hinted weeks ago that weeks later they would reveal what it was. (This was after Spyborgs).

SquareEnix has already exposed their major game on the Wii in Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles - going as far as to rework their tool set to accomidate Wii development. (That's a bad idea but they did so.)

Sega hasn't announced any exclusive but have made it clear they are working on many DS titles and a multiplatform title in Sonic: Unleashed.

On the US side.

EA has brought a remix to their existing franchizes and brought them to the Wii in "All"- Play, 4 major titles with a refreshed style of play.

Eidos is bringing Tomb Raider: Under World which is multiplatform

Then THQ is bringing along Deadly Creatures and De Blob.

In Europe Ubisoft is putting their A-team on Dogz Wii and Prince of Ticklez which the latter I'm not sure is a real game, but I have seen some screens of it and love the art direction.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

==> I bet all these games could have been multiplateform PS360+Wii IF Ninty would have pushed the devs a little bit. But Ninty isn't targetting hardcore outside the loyal Ninty Fans. Remember, it is about 1 year ago (E3 07) that a lot of people claimed that Wii will be the main gaming plateform in term of quantity AND quality project (no BS spin-off, no BS PS2 port (who saied RE4 ?)) We will see if this happens at E3. As I stated more than 1 years ago, If the Wii could get a version of all these big PS360 projects it would have completely killed the 2 consoles and get more credibility from the hardcore gamers.

I doubt it (not that they couldn't have been ported but that a bit of Nintendo pushing would suffice)

Developing a PS360 game means you have to rewrite the engine (unless you use middleware like Unreal-Engine) but you can reuse the same artwork and the game will be more or less identical.

If you want to port it to the Wii you have to redo everything and compared to the PS360 it will look bad. So I think many developers make the decision: If they have to redo the work anyway why not create a completely unique game for the Wii that caters to its strengths (motion controls) instead of simply sacrificing the strength of the PS360 (raw power for awesome graphics, physics etc.)

I really doubt that getting ports of GTA4 or Call of Duty4 would have helped the Wii. The games would look terrible in comparison and the gameplay is suited for standard controlers anyway so the Wii advantage would fall flat. But we will see how the Wii will fare with multiplatforms like Force Unleashed and Call of Duty5. I am pretty sure the PS360 versions will kill the Wii version of both.

Erm... the console war is already decided.

1. Wii
2. PS3
3. 360

1. DS

2. Wii

3. PSP

4. PS3

5. X360

It is a five horse race. Video Game Consoles also include portables. Does it play video games on it? It is a console.

Then that means that cell phones are in the race. They play video games as well.

It seems some people here really don't understand what "first party" means. I specifically called Kyros out on his assertion that Nintendo's first party lineup was also the worst this gen. Titles like Mass Effect and Gears are not first party. Like I already stated "exclusive" =/= "first party".

Many of the titles you guys keep listing are simply published by Sony/MS. There's a reason I didn't list MP3 or SSBB above. Retro and Sora developed those games exclusively for Nintendo. Nintendo didn't make them. Just like Sony didn't make KZ2 (GG), MS didn't make Gears (Epic) or Halo (Bungie). If you're gonna bring in second parties that are owned by Sony/MS and published by them I could add a bunch to Nintendo's lineup as well.

E3 will be like

Nintendo : new unexpected exclusives (monster rancher plx! A PROPER ONE ! :( )
Sony : if something like that duck tech demo comes out as a form of a game.. then sony might have a chance to survive an other year
Microsoft : they will just talk about how gr8 they are and how they are winning the console war.

@ Rock_on_2008
if the sales stay the same the wii will pass the DS

Either you confuse me with someone else or you didn't read my reply. I never said that the first-party lineup of Nintendo is the weakest. (That would be Microsoft although they have awesome third-party support). I clarified that the current announced games (lineup for christmas) of Nintendo is the weakest of the three. So announcing some big games at E3 is a necessity.

Clearly you stated that Nintendo had the weakest first party lineup.  You even said "At the moment".

You later backpedaled and tried to pretend you meant future lineups (because who doesn't mean future lineups when they use the phrase "At the moment") and numerous people also pointed out how flawed it is to compare lineups when Nintendo announces titles closer to release.

Plus even if they announce 0 titles at E3 you still would be wrong to consider MS and Sony to have better 1st party lineups by using titles they didn't even develop.

Don't bother trying to argue more, just stop while you're only slightly behind.

For me

1/ Wii sells a lot with or without multiplateform games

2/ Multiplateform games on the Wii would have reduced PS360 sales because some peole would have jumped in the more accessible Wii-boat : why buy a more expensive console when u get the same game on the Wii ?

3/ yes, Wii version will be awefull compared to the PS360 in term of gfx

sure

but what happens if all the internet reviewer decide to praise the Wii version and consider it is, finally, better one ?
