Forums - Gaming - who is the DS for?

I'm thinking about finally getting a handheld, but I'm worried about two things

1. Who is the DS for? at $140 I figure I might as well spend the extra $20 on a PSP bundle

2. what are the chances of nintendo coming out with a new hand-held soon?

EDIT:

3. how much do games go for?

Truth to say, i say DS are for kids, i enjoyed the Castlevania games that came out, but its kiddish, and the features are limited. I sold it after finding out no good games that i want is coming out for it. Im 18 years old, im tired of playing Mario kart with game boy advance graphics. Get a PSP, the god of war ame that came out looks really fun, and if you like castlevania, get the Dracula x Chronicles, the front game sucks ass real hard (the charecter walks slow, while the enemies are runnning circles, but its a remake.) but it has Castlevania Symphony of the Nights, which i say is the BEST title i have ever played, from the music, to you play as the dark lords son. But to get back on point, your better off buying a psp, you can also listen to music, store pictures, videos, web browsing, and shit it has games. Unless you like Nintendogs that is. To answer your questions

1. Its for kids, as explained above IMO

2. meh, prolly a ds liter lol, i doubt it

3.games go for 34.99$ and under, psp games are 39.99$ and under

@Bolded Lol so the game boy advance has 3d graphics? You could say the gameboyadvance=snes  Ds slightly>n64 in terms of power.

The games aren't all for kids you know there are many games that are fun for adults too proven by the link I just posted. IF the ds was only for kids then I highly doubt it would have sold that well.

Also tell me some good games for the psp, and I bet I could tell you games that are similar and  just as good, or better for the ds.

The DS is not for everyone. I absolutely adore my DS, but even I know there is at least one demographic that wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole and that's the graphics whores. The DS was made for people that love retro gaming, who grew up when 2D gaming was still popular and have wished it back for the last 15 years. The DS is a dream come true for these people, including myself.

I don't need intense graphics on my handheld, but I do need deep and satisfying gameplay

All I can say to that is, TWEWY - get that game and you'll be addicte.. satisfied for about 2 weeks, then depending on your love of it, you'll either just sit back in awe or replay it for 100% completion. Deep game, great narrative, great combat and very nice artwork. Also TWEWY is The World Ends With You

no offense, but the artwork for that game looks so emo and "angsty".....

huh? You might have your reservations about the game, that's your own business - I'm just responding to you asking for a deep game, satisfying is determined by your prefferences. If you don't get the game, then good luck to you - but missing out on it may be like missing out on breath of fire 3: If you never played it you missed something great.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

Actually, I'd say its the other way around.

I know a LOT of adults (30yr-50yr) olds with DSs, and they use it for lots of things (including the Brain Training games, translation, language/cooking teaching, and more).

I don't know any "adults" with PSPs, either teenagers or "hardcore" gamers who need to complete their collection. Oh, and people that use it as a media player.

...

Games I would recommend on the DS:

 - Advance Wars: Duel Strike

 - New Super Mario Bros

 - Metroid Hunters

 - Mario Kart (if you like MK)

 - Zelda:PH (definitely)

 - Castlevania (the FIRST one, not POR - it was crap)

 - FF3

...and a host of RPG titles. As I said - it comes down to what games you actually like. I also "generally" recommend Brain Training, Nintendogs, Clubhouse games & Pokemon - as travel games that will keep you (and friends) busy.

If you are more into shooters or racers - you might want to consider a PSP instead.

what color would be best? I've seen some nice red one's w/black trim, I was also looking at the black one, but apperently scratches are really visible on it

The Crimson/Black is awesome. I recommend it. Also, the DS is full of win.

That is what I'm also deciding for my ds lite. I can't decide between the red one with the black trim, or the blue one with the black tirm. Here are pics.

I would say either one would be fine, but E3 is in a few weeks, and I'm going to wait and see what new colors nintendo might announce if they do. ANd I'm also waiting to see if nintendo will anounce another redesign.

I have the black one and it's filthy on the outside. I can't help it. I would recommend a lighter color for you.

@niksta2:

Personally, I think the Crimson/Black is better (and I own a Cobalt/Black). Check the link I posted above.

EDIT:  If you're concerned about fingerprints showing, go with the original white.  Most of the colors show fingerprints like crazy.
