In my house we still own more VHS than DVDs (roughly 20-25 of each... 2 of those VHS and 7 DVDs are mine)

TAKE THAT TECHNOLOGY!

Or perhaps I should be writing to Nintendo to add VHS support to the Wii?

well seeing as the wii console already uses dated technology, I don't see the reason why they couldn't include it, so yeah, write that letter and make your wish come true.

The trolling is strong with you son.

yes master, the trolling force is strong among us, what is the world to do?!?!?!

Destroy The Troll We Must... Or Screwed We Are...

do it through firware.

                             End of 2008 Sales:

               Wii- 39 Million 360- 25Million PS3- 22 Million

                          PSN: papasmurf5721

I have 4 DVD players in my house already. I wouldn't pay $5 for another one.

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

It's ok, I already have a DVD player

Don't forget that DVD playback puts extra wear on an optical drive, thereby reducing the lifespan of Wii consoles. Nintendo takes hardware quality pretty seriously.

That's a good point.  Especially if people just leave it at the DVD menu and turn the TV off.  That sorta stuff kills optical drives as it keeps spinning and loading the movie over and over.

I just found an article about DVD royalties:

http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/6156.cfm

It seems that the royalty for a DVD player is a minimum of 3 dollars. That's at least $84 million that Nintendo has already saved by not putting DVD on the Wii, enough to make a lot of games.

I much rather have that 84$ million to be a 30$ budget for a game and the 54$ remaining to go to the shareholders than to get a DVD player for my Wii. I already have 3 computers with DVD drive, a PS2 and a DVD player. I'm sure most people have a DVD player already anyway.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

The logical thing they should do is add a DVD channel to the Wii shop channel for purchase. The cost of the channel would of course cover the licensing fee.

I dont think its that important at all, why dont they focus on extra storage?

Putting a DVD player into the Wii would be a complete waste of time anyways. I could understand wanting a Blu-ray player, but who honestly doesn't have a PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, PS3, or just a freakin' stand-alone DVD player by now? They end up making less money on each Wii sold for a feature no one cares about.

There is no need, the Wii drive is a DVD player, but all it lacks is the software to actually playback DVD movies, which is why they could offer a DVD channel for those that want it rather than do it through the firmware to all wii owners.

I for one would definetely use it, it would be the most I would get out of the wii seeing as it's hardley used as it is.

Agreed. Plain and simple.
