Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Ratings could make UK games more expensive, says Microsoft

"We're in the business of providing great games to a broad audience of gamers, and we need to be able to fulfil that role by getting products to consumers quickly and at a good price," Thompson told GamesIndustry.biz exclusively.

"We're concerned with any measures that would mean this process is made more unwieldy, or incurs additional costs which have to be shared with the consumer."

The Byron Review recommended that the BBFC should take more responsibility for rating games in the UK, mandating it to cover all titles suitable for children aged 12-plus - alongside the publisher-backed PEGI system which is prevalent across a large part of Europe.

"We want a steady stream of product to consumers via retail and therefore support PEGI as the single ratings system in the UK," he added. "That way, we're able to ensure the right content goes to the right audience, as efficiently as possible."

The government announced plans for the ratings system part of the Review to enter a period of public consultation, during which feedback will be solicited from the videogames industry, as well as parents and children."

No FUCKING thank you , we're already paying a preimum for our games here .

Mass importing confirmed.

Well, I think they're worrying about creating other versions of games to get the game under a certain rating. I think that they may be surprised at how liberal our rating system is (until the press gets involved a la Manhunt).

Shouldn't their damn in game advertising alone have brought us price reductions already? No! Instead they make more money and we get a price increase.

I personally think this is bullshit and I don't even live in the UK.

You pay the price for them to do their damn jobs.

I will be even more pissed if Nintendo and Sony announce they will doing this as well. As it stands right now it is just MS.

I don't get why people assume that because a company is making more money from one area, that they're going to drop the price in another.

A corporation is a legal person, without a conscience, and with only one goal: to make as much profit as possible. And they will go through many hoops 'n' loops to achieve this goal, including breaking many laws, and causing harm to human life and the environment.

Now, would you expect this same monster to drop the price of a videogame just because they've found a new source of revenue? If you do, you better start researching a little thing called capitalism.

If you enjoy having a company finding a new way to make money and then for some reason jacking up their prices, go ahead.

For many of us, we don't enjoy it. Wait until next gen when your games cost you upwards of $80 for a standard edition.

 They already do ;)

Did I say that I enjoy it, if you know me at all (which I accept that you don't, as very few people on this forum (if any) do). You'd know that I'm very much against captalism.

Microsoft is of course right. The existing PEGI-rating is enuff.

The last thing we need are government communists to decide what games we are allowed to play.

What the hell does the economic leanings of a govenment have to do with how they rate things?

Well, it does. Commies and socialists want to regulate everything.
