Forums - Gaming Discussion - Well A New Console Ever Show Up?

My money's on the U.S. government; it's looking for a way to help its economy, and what better way, right?

Okami

To lavish praise upon this title, the assumption of a common plateau between player and game must be made.  I won't open my unworthy mouth.

If EA makes a console, they won't make anymore 3rd party games, which is where their money comes from.

I doubt EA will make a console, maybe Apple, still doubt it.
I think this generation, all 3 company's will stay.
Next generation, same.
Generation after that, I think one will drop out.

Its really hard and expensive to compete with these company's.

I own all of lastgen systems as of October 2008. (Finally got a Dreamcast)

I own every currentgen system except PS3.

Home consoles? no way. no one would make another home console. It's crowded as is, imagine FOUR consoles.... Apple introducing a hand-held though, is far from out of the question.

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

apple have a handheld already its called the touch/iphone isnt there some games coming out at the end of the year (spore?) and arnt sega developing games for it ??

SKEEZER AND NINTENDO FAN GIRL ARE MY NEMESIS

YES TO BEER

Well, it'd need to be a company larger than the current largest so that it won't get crushed instantly.

My vote goes to either Wal*Mart or Tesco.

Apple with Pippin II :P

Apple will be the next company to join in. Now, they won't be joining for the CONSOLE gaming market, but actually the PC market. By creating a console system and with a lot of those games going Windows, they can get some exclusives and start getting support for MAC gaming, which is far juicier than winning a console war.

I don't follow your logic here.

You know if Apple and Sega teamed up to make a system..... That'd be so awesome. Think about it. Exclusives like Sonic, Nights, Shining Force, Phantasy Star and Panzer Dragoon. I don't know as a Gamer that'd be hard to pass up right there. Let alone anything else they might get.

Boycotting the following:

1. Yoshi: He ate my car and spit out a toaster.

2. Igglybuff: Totally false advertisement. You can have as many as you like they don't buff nothing.

3. the Terms Hardcore/Softcore... We're talking Video Games. Not Porn.

4. The term Casual as relates to Gamers: We make them sound like outsider's that happen to play games.  If that were the case they'd own a PS3.

5. Donuts.... Beacause I drink Beer...... and the biggest fan of Donuts hates Beer.

6. Boycotts: Their so lame.

Any company could ostensibly enter the market, assuming they had a disruptive enough product. Certainly few companies could compete in the brute-force manner that Sony and Microsoft rely on, but it didn't take much capital overall for Nintendo to get the Wii off the ground, and look at what it's done.

As for how likely it is, I'd say not very. At this point, you'd have to invent something even more intuitive, focused, and user-friendly than the Wii, and that's a tough order to fill. And to make it even more difficult, marketing divisions of companies tend to shoot down disruptive ideas as "never going to work". Which is terribly ironic since truly disruptive products have an obscenely high rate of success.
