Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.
1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.
PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

Not that strange... Look at GTA4, it also looks like most of the boost happened before the game launched.
Why? Most likely because MGS4/GTA4 buyers are well informed of what's coming to the market.

That's perfect actually. You guys get to point out how much less the model was than the previous one and it doesnt make it seem like the same exact model all of a sudden got slashed by 200 dollars.
big drop alright sony need a price cut it is obvious people still like 360 only 20k behind in sonys home patch.
Next, wath MGS4 SW to have dropped to 200K this week (worldwide a puny 500K).
So can we all agree that MGS4 is a niche game now?
Sony-domination is postponed 'til Christmas 2009 & FF13....

Don't forget "While getting rid of the higher level model. Thereby effectivly cutting the price by 200."
Since that's what it is... since the more expensive model was discontinued.

In Japan it does....elsewhere it doesn't really deserve to imo.
The PS3 dropped it's price by 200 euros in Europe.
That is how it is percieved here. Enuff said.
