Forums - Gaming - Soul Calibur IV announced on 360 and PS3 not on Wii in 2008

There's definitely a transitional window to deal with here. Namco/Bandai has clearly decided to aim at a broader-audience Soul Calibur-inspired game for the Wii, and a continuation of the hardcore fighting franchise on the HD systems. Considering that no footage has been shown of either game, I think it's a little bit early to assume that Legends has less effort invested into it than SCIV.

The one thing I don't understand is why new fighting games seem to be going the HD route without a port to the Wii -- graphical detail and draw distances would seem to be LESS of a requirement in this genre than in many others. It's all about the action, and there's no system last-gen or current-gen that can't handle 60 fps for fighting games. Maybe the hardcore fighting-game market is perceived to line up well with the early adopters, or character model detail can really be cranked up to the max when there isn't much else to worry about, so it's a good technical showcase for marketing.

I just posted first screns of SC Legends go check 'em they are still very early but first clues as to how it will look.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

More than likely, the reason that Namco is doing SC4 is that the engine for SC4 is, or was already done before the Wii started doing well, and decided that an SC port of some sorts was needed taking into account, the Wii's controls.

I would expect that SC should be MP to Wii for SC5....Provided SC:L does well.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Where is the 5 exclusives in this list?

Wii
Cosmic Family - Remake
Driver: Parallel Lines - Remake
Brothers in Arms: Double Time
Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 - Multiplatform
Beowulf - Multiplatform
Alive - Multiplatform
The Dog Island
Lost - Multiplatform
Petz - Remake
Prince of Persia Next Gen - Multiplatform

It actually looks like 2 TBH.

A remake does not mean non exclusive. You could say it is a crappy exclusive, but once again you can't say it is not an exclusive.

Driver: Parallel Lines has already been out on the PC, XBOX and PS2 last year, so they are now effectively bringing the same game to the Wii....it's classed as either a remake or a delayed release.  But it's not exclusive as it's been out already.

An game can only be classed as exclusive if it is effectively a new game and is only appearing on one platform.

Would you class Prince of Persia: Revelations for the PSP as an exclusive game?  There are no other games called POP: Revelations, but the game is basically POP: Warrior Within with a new title.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

Cosmic Family is a Wii exclusive, so is Petz. Just because it is a remake does not make it non exclusive. Also Rayman for Wii is an exclusive, even if it will apear on DS. The reasoning simple, if someone likes to play Rayman games, they have to buy a Wii. That means exclusive. The DS is a handheld console. It is like saying God of War is not a PS2 exclusive.

You really should not try to bend the truth to prove your theories.

Edit : Disregard that last sentence, it was unneeded.

Well I late to yet another discussion. As usual, I'll give my thoughts anyway. I'm not surprised that SC4 is only on 360/PS3. Its been touched on in other posts but the game has been in production for sometime and most analyst were burying the Wii before it launched. I will tell you what does surprise me though. Soul Calibur Legends being announced for Wii. I just figured Namco-Bandai would have pulled a Ubisoft and slapped a quick port of Soul Calibur 3 on Wii. Never thought they'd develop a game from the ground up so quickly. Hopefully its not being developed by the Death By Degrees team.

Odds are that Soul Calibur 4 began development on a PS3 based arcade board 6 to 12 months before the PS3 was launched. Namco was not a supporter of the Wii early on and it is likely they only recently considered porting Soul Calibur 4 to the Wii. Since this game was started on the PS3 and a Wii version was never planned in order to port the game to the Wii would probably take a lot of rework but may be possible; if Namco thought that they could make more money creating a Wiiport they would probably produce Soul Calibur 4 for the Wii.

Thanks to ckmlb for the screenshots -- I see the teaser is out for SCIV as well, so my impression that nothing's been seen yet has become outdated. :)

To judge from the screenshots, SC Legends looks like a fairly generic fantasy brawler at this point, although if the fighting engine itself is up to SC2 or SC3 standards I think it could be a solid entry in the genre. A lot will depend on story and exploration potential -- the "fighting adventure game" has not been a particularly fertile foundation to date.

What?

Surely Exclusive, means that it is only available on that one system and looks like it will only be available for that one system.

Your example God of War??  Well God of War and God of War 2 are PS2 exclusive games.  Just like God of War: Chains of Olympus is a PSP exclusive game.

You cannot determine exclusivity by console type (home and handheld).  In that respect, every PSP game is an exclusive.

Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 is being released on the DS and Wii, this means that it's not a DS exclusive or a Wii exclusive, but a multiplatform game seeing as the DS and Wii are different platforms.

Cosmic Family is a Wii release of a PC and Mac game.  Petz, will will have to wait and see if it is different enough to warrant an exclusive title seeing as it's been released on the DS and PC previously.
