Forums - Gaming - Soul Calibur IV announced on 360 and PS3 not on Wii in 2008

How does it make any type of sense that if one game is selling better on the Wii as a spin off than on the Xbox360/PS3 main line title that what you should do is keep investing loads into the main title and nothing more into the Wii.

Umm are you from the future or something because we have no idea how they sold since they haven't been released yet.

I think he was refering to the PS2 version.

I know that, and I cant predict either. But you never know what Sony/MS might want next time around. MY PREDICTION: Same graphics, smaller design, cheap. No graphics improvement. That is just me, though. Personaly, I am not looking forward to more realistic than what is available now.

Better graphics doesn't only mean more realistic, it means better looking be it artistic or realistic...

Also, 360 and PS3 can do more in AI and such and that is also always greeat to improve on.

Bullcrap.  Odin Sphere looks a helluva lot better than anything I have seen from the 360 or PS3.  Not even CLOSE.  Art and graphics aren't even related past a certain point.  IMO the PS3 and 360 passed this point.  As for the constantly crap games because they sell argument, that's hardly how developers work.  Obviously you will get a lot of crap to sort through but developers shift focus to money pretty fast.  Look at what happened with Ubisoft.  They ported 2 crap games, they sold well, then they pretty much shifted their entire company to Wii development.  I'm not saying the Wii WONT get crap, I'd say the PS2 is proof enough that the leader console will always get lots of crap, but there will likely by more good games than you can ever afford if you take the time to sort through the crap.

Bullcrap is my thought exactly if you think a PS2 game looks "a helluva lot better" than anything on the PS3 or 360.  You either don't own either of the latter consoles or saw them on some truly messed up standard definition television.

They are so related... there will be better artistic looking games because of the higher capabilities of the system.

Odin Sphere had lots of slowdown because it was on the PS2... SF II HD on 360 and PS3 is gonna look amazing as a 2D game.

It depends on the makers of the game how they make it, I bet you there will be artistic games on 360 and PS3 that could have never been made on the PS3 just as Okami couldn't have been made on the PS1 or Odin Sphere for that matter...

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

It's art, not graphics. Look it up, watch videos of it, the game is a masterpiece. There is a huge difference between art and graphics, and I don't consider the 2 related by much at all. The game looks great because it's not based on graphics. I could care less for realism. I don't own a 360 or PS3, but I do have friends who do (albeit the one with the PS3 doesn't have an HDTV). It's not about the graphics. Not to me.

Please note, I never mentioned how the game played.  I am very aware of the slowdown, and it would have been much better to have it on a system that was capable of playing it without that.  My comment was on the artwork.  I didn't say they weren't related at all, just only to a certain point, and I think the PS3 and 360 passed that point.  SF2 looks good... for SF2.  It's still limited by it's own art style.  Graphics are graphics, art is art, making something look clearer and crisper is great, but a game can be clean and crisp and nothing but artistic and still be amazing looking (Odin Sphere as a perfect example).  Super Smash Bros. Brawl has incredibly crisp and clean graphics.  The levels all look gorgeous and unique.  That I think is plenty, I don't find it necessary to see organs spill out in super high definition.

Ooo look at all the boxes.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

What makes sense is taking the third more you spent on that PS3/Xbox360 game investing it into 3 better looking Wii games. Don't understand the argument if people will buy a crappy Wii game just because they are interested in the genre it makes more sense to invest into that genre so you can produce more games, not go ohhh well they buy crap so lets just give them more and more of it. If this worked why does the Xbox360 have any games that look better than Perfect Dark Zero what would be the point it sold a million copies is in their top ten best selling why not make 3 billion more of the same type of game for less than it cost to make a game like Gears of War or Lost Planet people will buy them by this logic.

Geez...so far third parties are doing well on the 360, and there is an equal opportunity for many third party games to do well on the PS3.

Notice that 4 of those are third parties and they were all released early on in the 360's life.

Compare that to Wii third party games:

That is the complete Wii list.  I cut out over two-thirds of the 360 games to sell over 1 million.  I'd say it's smarter to release third party games on the PS3, 360, or both.

Actually, that's pretty scary for the 360.  The Wii's top 5 selling games already blow away the 360's with a smaller userbase and a MUCH shorter time on the market.  Also it's important to note that the only 3rd party games that were released with the Wii were average at best, wheras the 360 ones (at least CoD2 and GRAW) were quality games.  It's pretty scary that a game as bad as Red Steel can sell more than half as much as GRAW.  Obviously the Wii isn't the ONLY option developers have, but that doesn't mean it won't end up getting signifficant developer focus, and undoubtedly the majority of exclusives due to it's system specs making it a completely unique development rather than something that can be ported to.  It's already passed the PS3 on exclusives and is gaining on the 360 fast.  This is mostly because the big games developers made are going PS360PC because they have no choice if they want to make a profit.
